Communication Questions to Ask at a CG
Here’s a list of questions about communications to ask before you arrive at a CG.

Over the Air TV:
How many channels can I receive?
Will I be able to receive the 4 major network channels plus PBS?
Will the received channels be clear with no snow with my batwing antenna?

Cable TV:
Do you have Cable TV?
Will I be able to receive the 4 major network channels plus PBS?
Will the received channels be clear with no snow?

Satellite TV Reception:
Will my rig in the campsite have unobstructed view of the atellites? No trees, buildings or mountains.
If not will I be able to set up a portable dish with 150’ (specify your length) of cable?

Satellite Internet Connection:
Same as above.

WiFi:
Do you have WiFi?
Will I have WiFi at my campsite or do you have WiFi hotspot coverage?
How many bars can I expect on a typical laptop?
Advice: Regardless of the answers always carry an external WiFi antenna.

Does the CG have Verizon (specify your provider) cell phone coverage?
Can I get aircard reception from my campsite?

I’ll update the list based on your response.

Also ask about what kind of Wifi coverage they have. Some of the older setups are VERY slow and won't work well, if at all. (It has something to do with b's, g's and h's - I'm not the techie in the family. )

Good to have cellphone, Wifi and TV (if only for weather coverage) when one spends a month or more in one's RV, though!

That is a very comprehensive list. However, my experience has been that the people answering the phone at CGs won't be able to answer many of them, or they will exaggerate the capabilities of the services at the campground.

Or won't want to answer them.

I agree that you may not get adequate answers to some of the questions. But at least there is a list of questions to ask.

What is the best way to ask performance related questions? Like is your WiFi slow or related to the number of users at midnight (or whatever time) etc?

I've had CG's tell me they don't know about Verizon coverage (OK they are honest). Also that they don't have Verizon coverage (on a major truck route - OK Verizon I don't hear you). But they were knowledgeable and I stopped anyway.

Ask the CG what the NAME of their WiFi is i.e. what it goes by so that when I bring up which WiFis are available on my screen, I can click on the correct one. That will prevent you from 'tuning' into a clandestine hot spot.
