Looking for rv parks or boondocking spots near and around SMA. There is a park showing on the internet but I think they recently reported it closing. We will be leaving in a week.

Chris,

I do not know current status, but when we were there last:

Motel La Siesta has/had one.

The other one, suitable for smaller rigs was at San Miguel RV Park and Tennis Courts.

Chris,

When my wife and I stayed there last fall, the folks at Siesta CG said they would be closing in January of this year. I don't know if they did or not. The other place, San Miguel Park, the tennis courts, is nearer to the downtown and is said to be for smaller units. I think your TT will fit. From what I've heard, it's a great place.

It's in the Church's book.

We enjoyed San Ramon North of SMA a couple of miles. Quiet, super showers & Wifi. We got our big rig in without trouble so it will be a breeze for you.

Hi Chris,

The La Siesta was open in June. The Weber's is good too. They say 16 foot max on trailer length. That sounds right to us. Call when you get close to let them know you're coming. (415) 152-0659 or (561) 459-5632 (U.S.)

Oh, I forgot. Weber's also has the best Wi-Fi in Mexico. You should appreciated that!

We made it to Dolores Hidalgo this evening. We took off late anyway, but we got here and after filling up with gas I pooped out. We are parked in the university parking lot, we have security, wifi and a level spot. We will tour Dolores in the morning and head on out to the Weber's Tennis Court in the morning to spend the week.

Not getting old, but driving all day is too much for me. I prefer leaving early, driving six hours and stopping for a nap and a walk in the evening. I will update my blog in the morning.

Chris,
Could you check out the status of La Siesta while you are there. We have stayed there three different times, and each time they talk of the new development. We are hoping to stop by again in the fall.
Enjoy SMA.

We ended up staying at La Siesta at least for tonight. We will check out Weber's Tennis Club tomorrow to see if we can fit and if they have wifi.

Everything at La Siesta works great but their wifi signal doesn't reach the rv area. Great pool, good electricity, water and dump. They say there are no plans for any changes (at least the sourpuss at the front desk told us that).

200 pesos a night. We got lost coming into SMA. Paid a taxi 30 pesos and he brought us right to the rv park. It works every time(I don't know why people don't do it more often). There are three motorhomes here, one just left with kids , and the other two are under investigation at this time . I haven't seen the owners.

Overall we are happy here.

BTW, a warning to those coming this way in the fall. Because of the big Independence celebration in 2010, all the roads in and out of this area are under construction. The highway from Dolores Hidalgo to SMA are being completely redone and widened. All the steets in Dolores Hidalgo are being ripped up and recemented with wonderfully beautiful hand laid stone and stamped concrete that will last another 200 years. A real project. We were very impressed.

Chris,

Welcome to one of our favorite towns in the world.

And if you venture INSIDE of the ring road with an RV, it ain't a pretty drive!

But, park and venture into town and it is great.

Stop at the Institute on the walk in from the La Siesta, go to their back patio and take in the view of the back of the cathedral. It will remind you of why you are there.
