We have a KVH in-motion satellite and our dealer advised us to contact DISH for receivers. We were told we could have two receivers so that each TV would be independant . . . . after MUCH time back at the dealer, countless hours on hold or speaking with DISH and KVH, they have decided that our DISH account was not set up properly by our local retailer and have now told us that they will shut off our receivers. Does everyone have to purchase a receiver to use in a mobile application ?(we do not have DISH at home)The bottom line is that regardless if the receiver is leased or purchased by us, the system DOES NOT work!!!!!

At this point, we are ready to give up as each of the three entities 1) the dealer 2) DISH network 3)KVH in-motion satellite dish simply cannot or will not help us to make this work. We are willing to do whatever needs to be done, but this passing the buck is making us crazy! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes. Call Directv and setup a residential account. When they ask about installation, don't mention the RV and when the installer gets there just have them give you the dish. If you want to intall a dish at the house, do that and ask the installer for another dish and he'll sell you one for $20 under the table.

Have the installer make you up a 50' and a 75' cable.

Get a tripod at Radio Shack or find one online and buy a decent compass at Walmart or a camping store. The bigger the better.

I have one Dish DVR with dual tuners for 2 TVs. Every contact I've ever had with Disk customer service has been long, painful and completely useless. I can't blame you for giving up but it definitely can be done.

We have Direct in the MH and they know its in the MH, no problem. We also have it in the house, they know that too. Dish is a nightmare to deal with for any reason unless its to get more money out of the customer.

Call Direct.

Why would he want to do that when he has an "In motion" system?

So you can get an extra dish for when trees block the dome.

Also so as not to confuse the satellite company.

And Directv because they are easier to deal with.

This is two posts I often make...

First: On setting up the account: Make sure it's an RV not a Residential account, if you set up a residential account as one poster above suggested, they may deny you Distant Network Service. (In fact, they should)

Now: There are 4 services. In most cases if you call direcTV and mention an RV they transfer you to KVH.. You do need to threaten them to get the account set up (You do not need to talk to KVH)

DirecTV (Standard 4x3 NTSC type) works very well with domes and is in fact what the KVH was designed for. uses one bird, at 101

All domes can see one bird at a time, no more

DishNetwork,Standard needs to see two birds if you are going to use two receivers, Will work with SOME domes if you have only ONE receiver, but if you have two (or a dual-input DVR) it will not work with a dome.

DishNetwork HDTV Needs to see 3 birds, See above comments

DirecHDTV will not work with a dome. PERIOD.

Hi wa8yxm,
A friend of ours purchased a RV with a KVH In Motion with a Dish Network dish. He has Direct TV at home and would like to use it in his coach. Is it possible to somehow make the dish compatible with Direct TV? If not, is there something else he can do in order to use the In Motion without changing it out?

Thanks

We have a KVH LM in motion system, hooked up with DirecTV, two receivers, one is a DVR. We live in our coach fulltime and they know it. I have never had a problem with their service. If you look at the KVH manual it gives you both options of service, DirecTV and Dish. With Dish it gets more complex than DTV. It's actually easier with DTV.

You should have no problem moving the receiver from house to RV. Have him go to the KVH website, I think their manuals are downloadable if he doesn't have one. If all else fails, call them, they seemed very helpful when I had to contact them.

I also have KVH system, but without a receiver. I am getting ready for a trip and it looks like DirectTV maybe the way I go. But the monthly charge (special of $35 per month for 12 months, then goes to $56 a month) might put me off as we may be staying in parks trhat have cable.. Kinda hate to also pay a monthly charge especially when the MH is sitting in the driveway.

Any thoughts?
