I will be watching for replies to your post as our travels this fall will also take us through Springfield.

I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

We did an overnight a few years ago at Sunset View in Monson, MA, which isn't too far out. http://www.sunsetview.com/

It was clean and quiet with some nice facilities.

Try Prospect Mountain campground. That's where we stayed the last time we went to Six Flags New England.

There are a couple close by in Southwick, both I belive are owned by the same person. Typical private CG's, Southwick Acres and Sodom Mt. S A is about 15 minutes from 6 flags and is in a quiet area of town. Sodom Mt. is a bit farther west at the foot of Sodm Mt of course in an even quieter area. Another 20 minutes West you get to Granville SP (no hookups) and then Prospect Mt. maybe 30-40 minute to the 6 Flags. Both Granville and Prospect are up in the hills, Southwick and Sodom are still in the flatland, sort of. I would think Sodom and Prospect have more for kids to do then the other 2. That's about it for close by.

If you go to Prospect Mountain via Rt.8.....be ready for a 13% grade for the first 1 1/2 miles from basically a dead stop....it's the way I go, but then again, I'm only pulling a Pop up....don't worry about the trip back down, there is a run off just before the last turn before the stop sign

13%!! Yikes! I do not think I have seen a grade like that yet. Sounds like one of the rides at the park.

The tow up concerns me more that down. The trans. will keep the brakes cool, I think(hope).

Thanks for the information, I will check them out.

Sounds like my options are limited here. I must be blessed to live in a state with so many CG's(Maybe not so blessed for other reasons). I am starting to wonder if other states have as many as we do here in NY.

Thanks again,

Ryan

Only camped in western Mass two times, do not think either of these are too close to Six Flags but incase they come up in conversation, i would not send my worse enemy to these places, Yogi in Sturbridge and Coldbrook in Barre. These 2 places are on the top of my worse place to camp list, they are both dirty pits.

For some reason, western MA is very limited in campgrounds for larger (30' plus) rv's. We like to head out that way for James Taylor at Tanglewood every year, and would like to head out for fall foliage, but, over the last 10 years or so have stayed at at least a half dozen different places and have not found one we really like. I know some of the state parks are very nice, but often we are looking for hookups, so we are talking about the private parks here. I'd love to see some reviews or recommendations as well.

Sodom Mountain in Southwick is the closest, nice CG to the Big E. I live in Southwick on the lakes, so have never had a reason to camp there. However, I have talked to people who did and liked it. There are no steep, windy roads to climb to get to it. You're 15 minutes from Springfield. PM me and I'll tell you the short cut, which is even faster.

Prospect Mtn CG is up route 57, which is very steep coming from New Boston, and steep coming from Southwick.

Monson Ma is about 45 minutes to the East from Springfield.

No CGs in Connecticut are nearby.
