We have been looking at toy haulers for over a year now and yesterday at our local KZ New Vision dealer, I had a look inside of an Open Road 5th wheel. I was very inpressed by the quality and workmanship of these units and the salesman told me that they are just beginning to build a toy hauler. As we are planning to full-time in this unit quality is very important and the price of their 5th wheels is quite reasonable. has anyone out there seen these rigs and what is your opinion.

Beautiful unit but 2 things would stop me.
42 feet long. That's ok if you plan on going only to KOA's.
The other is $81,000???? Holy Cow!

My local dealer has one with 3 a/c's and a generator already built in that I have my eye on. He's asking $66 but I think there's still plenty of room in that.
He also said their coming out with one that is shorter pretty soon if 42'is a bit much.
Things I liked over others, lower overall weight, new rear door deseign, slideout system and built in stabilization system.

I do like a lot of things they are doing on these, but I don't get the comment "new rear door deseign".

I haven't seen one in person so can you elaborate on this more.

Thanks,

David

Hopefully your not commenting to the fact that I couldn't spell design!

The door basically has a "hump" built into it so if your loading something with low ground clearance(like my bike)it won't bottom out on the door frame. This probably won't be a big deal to the guy's that haul quads but to us street bike guys this makes life alot easier. This was a biggie for me.

Also noticed there's no outside handles or latches that require a external lock of some sort on the rear door, only a key hole to unlock the inside latches. I don't know if this is actually more secure but when you first see it you don't know how the hell it even opens. Not such a big deal but pretty cool.

That sounds cool, but at first glance from just the photos, the rear of the Open Range looks like a step backwards in design. Narrow door which is no doubt to accomodate the fancy door latches mounted inside(see 1st pic below). It looks cool to be rounded like that on the top at the rear and it is much simpler to fabricate, but no place for ramp lights, etc. (see 2nd pic).

Still a nice looking Toy Hauler.

BTW, no I wasn't being the Spelling Police, scary part is I didn't notice until after I posted my reply :-)

Damn, I didn't even notice there were no loading lights! Their going to have to throw in some flash lights and duct tape if they want my business.

Seriously though, I'm going to put a e-mail into the manufacturer and ask them about that. I e-mailed them before about how they came up with their weights listed on the website and when the guy called called back he said if I had any questions or ideas to let them know.

85 gallons of fresh would not go very long on a 5+ day trip...

I could without the mural and that loading door is odd. Nice unit though.
