We are presently shopping for a used roadtrek and have looked at both Dodge and Chev. Wondering what present or former roadtrek owners think about the pros and cons of each make. Is one better than the other? Does the year make any difference? What about Maintenance?
Any difference in MPG? etc.

We prefer Chev. We have had 5 R/T and the Chev handels better and more comfertable. The one Dodge we had was hard on transmitions (3) in les then two years and we traded it off for a R/T Chev. So for my money Id so chev.

We have a 2000 Roadtrek 200 Popular on the 1 ton Chevy Express Van
chassis. We have been extemely pleased with both the handling and gas mileage of our van.

I can't speak from experience other than to say that in the 10 years of participation in this forum, there has been considerable mention of handling issues with the Dodge chassis Roadtreks.

By Dodge, do you mean the old Dodge vans or the new Sprinter vans currently sold by Dodge.

I mean the old Dodge with the 318 motor, Our price range is under $35000 so a unit from 1998 to 2004 would be about right.

Having owned both from that era, definitely the Chevy. While I don't doubt that my '99/'00 D190V was unusual in its _very_ poor driving manners, the Chevy, if it's anywhere near 'right', will drive soooo well. On my '02 RT C190P, I could use a relaxed left-handed three finger grip on the wheel as semis passed. The only thing I missed in the Chevy was the large overcab storage drawer in the Dodge, and the slightly higher dump outlet.

_Maybe_ pick the Dodge if going on rougher dirt roads is really important to you (better ground clearance). But take a test drive yourowndangself before committing, per the FAQ on the B forum. Don't take anybody else's word on how it drives.

(on edit) No idea of where you are, but the Chevy also has a water system that is partly usable in winter (reduced capacity). No such in the Dodge.

Definitely Chevy. The old 318 dodge engines were a good quality engine, but in my opinion, too small (underpowered) for a Class B. The older Chevy 350 and newer Vortec 364 (known as 6.0 liter but this is America where we measure our engines by cubic inches) are much more powerful which should result in better gas mileage (better power/weight ratio). Chevys handle better than Ford or Dodge.

I have had a 1995 dodge RT and a 2004 chevy RT. The dodge got 18mpg and drove well after some work wheel spacers, and aligment. I put 180000 troble free miles on it.I do like the chevy RT drive the best. however the chevy has low ground clearance. good luck on what ever you get. James

Thanks everyone for the input, pretty overwhelming support for the Chevy, now to find one with the right mileage at the right price. Hope to meet some of you on the road sometime.
