IMO all closed systems should have at least a small expansion tank.

ok, let me see if I can describe this accurately. My MH came with the "low end" ShurFlo pump that has just an on-off control. It would make a heck of an on-off noise at most all flows except full faucet open. I installed the CW accumulator tank and now it cycles very smoothly. But for some reason, ocassionally it starts the rapid noise again and I shut it off, open a faucet to drain, turn the pump back on, and all is smooth aagain.

the reviews on the CW site are mixed for the particular unit you recommend. Understanding you're having good luck with it, I'm wondering if you also have an accumulator tank in that big coach you drive. Nope, no accumulator, just the pump. I was also considering the accumulator instead of the pump, but went with the pump instead. We've got 30,000 on the bus and do a LOT of boondocking so the pump gets well and thoroughly used.

I upgraded to THIS for all of the reasons that have been discussed. A great upgrade. The pump/accumulator tank combo solved the problems. For those that boondock or rely on their onboard FW tank a good pump and accumulator tank is the way to go.

Thanks for the FloJet suggestion. It looks nice and compact and easy to install but the price is more than double Shur Flo. I need to think about that.

Hi Larry,
I found that Pex is too stiff for a direct connection too the pump and will make alot of noise. This can be curred with flex hose pump connections too the Pex.
I also found I get better results from FloJet pumps than surflo. FloJet rated at 5gpm, run quieter, last longer, have Vitron seals and that means I can stock one pump for either my water or diesel pumping needs, about $30 more internet priced or $100 delivered.
A piece of 2" x 6ft PVC with end cap and a barb fitting, plumbed into a "T" on the pump discharge can be used to remove pump pulsing as well act as a accumulator.

I've owned two trailers with three different Shur-flow low end water pumps in the last 27 yrs. and have never found a need for the accumulator. There is some pulsing, but hey you are camping and I don't find that a problem.
Others will disagree ...

I agree with this, and one really big advantage with the noisy pump and no accumulator is that when your rig sprouts a leak, you know about it right away.

You could search this Forum for phrases like `noisy water pump, etc. before you replace your existing pump.
Shurflo does not recommend an accumulator with their pumps. They say it is not needed. I installed one anyway. I would call their Techs for installation instructions because the manual is not perfect.
For example there should be several feet between the pump outlet and the first fitting so the pump `reads' the correct discharge pressure.
