This is getting real old.One guy from Arizona and one from Maryland who have their boxers all twisted. Loosen the knots because everyone of your posts are saying the same thing. Bottom line is we don't owe you ANYTHING!!
Bears Den wrote: Just my observations of 26 snowbird seasons..Holding up checkout lines while sifting through coupons, two for one dinner specials and 2 for 1 drinks, when working people are trying to get a meal oh yeah and staying in state parks cause they are cheaper than trailer parks. Those would be neither Golden nor Silver Gooses as stated earlier. That would be cheap snowbirds. Last time I checked, public servants were paid based on property taxes not liquor taxes, sales tax or gas taxes. Property taxes paid by full time residents and snowbirds who are property owners not tenants of a state park. And yes Florida residents do get in wrecks and sometimes cause them, usually because they are frustrated with snowbirds on the roads while they are trying to get to and from work or run errands on weekends. You tell me why when my wife stops at the grocery store after work she has to wait in line while snowbirds grocery shop. These are the kinds of things I'm sure officergator is trying to make you all understand. It is your lousey it's all about me attitudes because you spend a few bucks in Florida. I know now that one of you will repeat exactly what has already been said by other up north posters. Get the point, it's not all about you when you are down here. There are people whose lively hood depends on snowbirds, mine is not so I could careless if you're here or not.Next, comeon we have to get this thing to 100 posts!!
A Florida Native here Too. Don't get me started. Now if we could get rid of that darn Orlando Mouse????
I'll check back with ya'll later. I have to go get ready to have dinner with my snowbird neighbors from NJ.They just got here Sunday. Really nice people who are truly Golden Geese, they own a home here and help pay my salary and buy cars almost everytime they are here.I don't think they've ever stayed in a state park down here!!
I find it quite funny that someone from Florida is complaining about out-of-state bad drivers.
I'm from Ontario, drive frequently in Quebec where I thought the worlds worst drivers were. Well, during my 2 week vacations in Florida the last couple of years, I must say that I find Floridian drivers are MUCH worse than those from Quebec. For pete's sake... I'm driving 70-75 MPH on the 4 from Daytona Beach to Orlando in my van and I'm white-knucking it because of all the cars flying by me - all with Florida plates. Perhaps a little less concentration on snowbirds and paying attention to the actions of the drivers from your own state would be in order?
I give up! As usual everyone of you from up north are absolutely right and I all so absolutely wrong! I know nothing and obviously cannot even seem to make any sense when trying to give an opinion.
Does that make you feel better? I never said ask people to leave the state. Never said anything about unequally enforcing laws. I specifically stated that in the winter months I stop on average alot more snowbirds for many knucklehead and dangerous violations than I normally do. When I work traffic crashes in the winter, the large majority are on snowbirds!
All I ask was for snowbirds to have a little respect, something I DO NOT SEE VERY OFTEN. Are all snowbirds lacking respect for Fl residents, NO, but a large majority of those we all meet down here are. Look at the posts from the other FL members?
As I am sure you will pick apart this post and somehow twist it into me being the anti-chirst or something, I am done with the topic. We all just wanted respect, something many of you seem to have even missed when replying to these posts.
This is a very funny thread to read. It sounds like the most perfect North Americans are only Floridians. I now know when I see a true Floridian, it has to be someone wearing a halo.
Don't worry 10 more years of global warming and it will Florida everywhere no need to go down south anymore. Might as well stay home and bake. Problem solved, in fact Fl will be unbearable all year long and the northern states will get the "sun birds" coming north for a change. ;-)
