Hmmmm ... better visit Maine first ... because after you've been to Alaska there is nothing to compare. Plain and simple.
So do Maine and love all it has to offer. Then plan the adventure to Alaska, and never look back!

Been to Alaska X2, Maine, New Foundland, Quebec, Nova Scotia etc. Going back to Alaska next year unless we decide to go up thru Quebec and Labrador back to New Foundland. Probably Alaska.

Maine is beautiful, but not eight weeks worth. On the other hand, eight weeks is kinda short-time for Alaska. We did Alaska last year, and Maine this fall for a little over 2 weeks. I would go back to Alaska tomorrow if I could.

You can always go to Maine, but Alaska is a once in a lifetime trip!

Tough call.
Been to both just once, just a two week tease for each, and still want to do both when I have more time.
Alaska is pretty much a pure nature excursion. Maine is rugged coastlines AND maritime history. Depends what you're looking for.
Maine can fit into a shorter trip, so if this is your only 8 week trip for quite some time (ever) then go with Alaska.
When I think of Maine, I also think of the Canadian Maritimes. I'd suggest at least as much time in eastern Nova Scotia as you do in Maine, and if you can fit in Newfoundland, even better.

We are just back from 48 day Down East & Maritime fall trip Great, even if it was a bit wet. No problems with CG availability.
We did 120 day Alaska trip last year. Not enough time.
Not enough time for either actually.
You just have to do both.

Maine is pretty but the key is the rest of the trip. It depends what you want to do. Drive through mid-west, Great Lakes, Niagara Falls some eastern cities, finger lakes New York or cut across to Quebec City. Lots of different routes and things to see and do. From Idaho to Alaska it is all exciting from day one and Alaska is just one of a kind. Yes Alaska would be the choice but it would be a shame to miss the Eastern Coast so do it another time.
