Looks like the water is down a few feet. Canyon Lake is one of our stops next March. Love the Golden Age Pass.

Fishinghat wrote: Golden Age Passport was a lifetime admission permit issued by the National Park Service to seniors. It has been discontinued, and it's replacement has an annual fee (I believe).
The replacement geezer pass is a one-time fee (mine was $10 if I recall, two years ago). Need to pay for it again only if you lose it and want another.
What makes it work at Canyon Lake is going into a USACE access area. If the Corp of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service have public money-supported facilities for a fee, the pass is usually good for free access and 50% discount on fees. If the recreational facilities are private concession operations, you might not get the discount on fees.

Right now the water is 4 to 5 ft down from normal pool. BUT, it's up 5 ft from where it was a couple of months ago. It was sad. NOW, you see a lot of smiling faces around there.

I spent about a week near Canyon Lake a few years ago. I was fishing at an area on the lake where there is a waterfall that empties into a stream (I'm going by memory here). This spot has a metal railing. I had leaned my fishing pole against the railing and was standing nearby when all of a sudden something huge grabbed the bait and my pole started to thrash violently. Hoping to catch the pole before the fish pulled it into the water I ran quickly but upon catching the pole I smashed my ribs badly against the railing. Even though I couldn't catch my breath due to the injury I tried to reel that monster in but the line broke and I never was able to determine just what it was at the end of the line (maybe a big catfish?).
In a lot of pain, I managed to reach my car and drive myself to the nearest hospital. X-rays were taken but nothing was broken...just badly bruised ribs. Talk about pain! Took quite a while to get better.
So, I have these "fond" memories of Canyon Lake. I've even considered going back to that same spot and trying to catch the "big one that got away. Yep, I'd be Capt. Ahab looking for Moby Dick

We stayed at the ASAF RV park at Canyon Lake a couple of years ago.Great place!
We had the pleasure of sitting thru the biggest rainstorm we had seen in years.
DW was not too happy,I thought it was great.Lightning, wind, rain like pouring water out of a boot. Fun time!
BTW the Army has a campground on the other side of the road,it was OK but the AF park was better. But then I am retired AF....
