I wonder who picked these sites and why? Some are very surprising to me.

That is an odd list indeed! Graceland, a Baptist Church, really?

The Sears Tower give me a break. If you want to see some awesome height go to the Grand Canyon and walk out on to the Sky Deck.
Graceland no thanks.
New York harbor smelly, polluted and noisy. Give me the coast of Oregun or Maine

Agreed, very odd list! 4 on the list aren't even a consideration for the top 50 of interest to DW & I.
The Baptist Church??? OMG! You have to be joking!
New York Harbor??? Just a dirty busy harbor with the one thing of interest, the Statue Of Liberty! The harbor's certainly not in the top 8.
Graceland??? And he's from our era. I agree he was the real rock n roll enabler and yes, we like him a lot but a must see???
Sears/Willis Tower??? Been to the top of Sears Tower 5 times and it's neat but so is John Hancock Center among the so many more in other cities. It's only about 110 miles by air from our home.
We'll take many other National Parks and other places of real interest within our top 50 must see's.
2004 Chev 2500HD D/A crew cab LB 4X4, Air Bags & upgraded to 3500HD
Lance 990 Legend Camper 11' 4" with my 2' X 7' rear porch with box
29 ft Carri-lite 5th wheel - specially built
36 ft Carriage 5'er (took a tree falling)
Lance 915 Camper (just sold)

I would think Mount Rushmore should be on any must see list.

We need to come up with our own:
(my example)
Grand Canyon
Yellowstone
Arches National Park
Top of The World Highway
Mt. Rushmore/Crazy Horse
Smoky Mountains
Florida Everglades
Florida Keys
Better to Zig then Zag!

Having seen all eight on the list, I'd have to add to or substitute some of them.
Anyone who has ever peered over the edge into Crater Lake might add that to the list.
How about wandering around in the heart of the Redwoods?
Certainly Mt. Rushmore.

Not my list for sure.
I am not a fan of NY, but if you sail around Manhattan at night, that is as good as it gets.
Washington is a city surrounded by, but not participating in reality.

I can only comment on what I have seen.
NY at night rivals any European city (My home town so I'm partial ).
Pearl Harbor (I was there on its 46 anniversary)
Kauai (incredible floral beauty)
Kona (lay on the beach and gaze at 14000 foot snow covered peaks)
The Florida Keys (my favorite Mile Marker-82)
Niagara Falls (awesome power)
The Grand Canyon
The Capital district of Washington DC
