The wife and I are planning to relocate to Az. Instead of flying out for a few weeks...and not figuring out where we want to live. We bought a 95 Holiday rambler 30ft Class A, pulling a 98 civic, I just bought to pull. We plan to make our way out to AZ, see a few sights along the way, and really check out AZ, NV, and maybe utah...Take maybe 3-4 months.
So what might be a good route , this time of year? I'd like to stay out of the mountains as much as possible.
This is all new to us, and we are kinda winging it...
Wow! Your post could have been written by me. We're doing the same thing, to and from the same places! We've decided to move to the Southwest (Arizona or New Mexico) from NY and bought an RV to do it so we could explore before putting down some roots. How crazy is that?
Our route is going to take us south to Florida first to visit my spouse's mother, then west.
Run the road to Az .. Ok, we do this route both ways each winter. From Rochester to Buffalo on I-90 to Cleveland . Jump onto I-271 south and Go as far as Nashville, Then take I-40 west to I-30 at N.Litle Rock. Next,a hard left down to Dallas and then west on I-20 to I-10 and then onto I-8 and you are in AZ. YOu can run to Nashvill by way of I-81 and connecting route I-40..
Wow. I guess there's more of us from the NE relocating to AZ. Earlier this year we bought a house in Mesa, haven't been able to relocate yet - hopefully next summer. We're in NE Ohio. Drove it from here to Mesa twice this year. One time driving a car, a second with a 24th rental truck with a trailored car. The first time drove it straight through with my son - took us 33 hours. Second time three days in the truck. Both times, same route - 71 south to Columbus, 70 west to St Louis, 44 to Oklahoma City, 40 to Holbrook, AZ then south to Phoenix/Mesa. We sold our MH, it was a class C, hope to get a Class A once we are settled in AZ. Have a good trip. I'm sure you'll enjoy it out there. We can't wait to get there.

How can we get you out of NY if we don't know where you are at. Depending on where you are located, I can think of several routes just to get out of the state.
I know this will sound crazy to some, but if I did not want ANY hills, I would make my way to I95 and head south to Richmond, catch I-85 to Atlanta and I-20 west. You sure dont have no hills to worry about. On I-81 there are hills, and on I-40 there are hills. None on I-30 and Texas, NM and Az southern part has no hills.

I will consider that.
Not sure why some say don't take I95 ? Bridges? I drove that once 20 years ago, going to florida... Seemed ok then.
However, I think I'd like to travel through nashville and Memphis... If there is stuff to stop, camp and see in those places ? Looking into that shortly.
I said avoid mountain road behause my MH is a 95 gas pulling a toad( civic- 2400lbs )... Not sure how good it will be..Never had a MH before now. It has a 460 and only 24k on it... Should be ok?
There is no mountain driving on I-40 or I-20/I-10. Both routes will have some hills but nothing significant. You do climb up to around 7500ft on I-40 and around 4700ft on I-10 but the climb is gradual and barely noticeable. Your engine may loose some power and your mileage may suffer but nothing to worry about. If you decide to settle above 5000ft then get the vehicle tuned for the higher altitude if it does not automatically tune itself after a week or so.
You are less likely to hit freezing weather on I-10 and I-40 should be clear although 10 degrees colder, unless a winter storm, with moisture, is passing through the same time you are.
