I've never owned a truck camper, but my parents have one for there F350 - and it's heavy. I've seen the Lance Cabovers and they interest me, but I'd like some opinions on a few questions. I have a 2006 Nissan Titan crew cab short box. I've read that they will work. However would it be possible to tow 6,000 lbs with the camper loaded in the back? Or would it be way too much for that size of truck. And can you even get a hitch extension that would work? Lastly are there storage solutions? As we're used to packing everything we own into a motorhome... Just wanting to know if it's even an option.
Thanks
D

Every pound you put into your truck reduces the tow rating from the factory by the same amount. That includes weight of passengers, cargo, optional equipment and campers. good luck / skip

I've got an 845 which is about 600 lbs heavier than the 815 according to Lance's site, the camper ready to roll is over 3000lbs ready to camp and with my Wrangler and trailer hooked up I'm really right at the max I'm comfortable with even with Stabiloads and air bags.

My F-250 has a 9800 GVWR and I'm well over that even without the tongue weight of the trailer. I don't know what the Titan can carry but my guess is you'd be way out of its capacity.

Another thing to consider is the bed length, the Titans I've seen look shorter than the 6'8" a Chevy/Ford has for bed length, if it is that will change your center of gravity and may be unsafe.

I saw a nissan titan with a small t/c on it. Was squatted bad. I would not have felt comfortable driving that vehicle in the condition I observed. I have a Lance 805 and put it on a Dodge 1500. Added "e" rated tires and air bags. Did not feel comfortable as I was over my gvw by 700# and had not even hooked up the bass boat.

My opinion is do not do it.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. And unfortunately I don't want to go to a bigger truck. Oh well I guess it's back to a motorhome.
Thanks folks

Or, you could check out this post on Tundra's forums. This person hauls an 815 on their Tundra Double Cab.

The other options are Outfitter, Hallmark, or Phoenix. All of these Colorado custom pop-up builders have models that will work with your truck. The Buyer's Guide on the Truck Camper Magazine site is very helpful in sorting out loads.
