Doesn't AT&T have a function that tracks where your kids are and somehow tells your phone may be a way to do what you want.

No they can't. For a couple of reasons.

1. They don't have access to track it unless they get a call.
2. Privacy issues.
3. The phone company needs to be contacted with the correct court orders and then they locate your phone, they can turn the signal up or down and get you into a certain area. Then they roll out their tech truck, it's really cool, and narrow the signal down.

Get a lojack or an iphone. The iPhone will allow you to track it to within a block or so.. There are also a number of other services you can use and install in your camper.

The answer to the OP is yes but they wont. Most police departments don't have the phone pinging tracking equipment. For serious cases involving the life or death of a person they will contact the state police or a larger department that have the equipment.

The 911 system in most parts of the U.S. can use the cell towers to aleart the police to your location when you make a phone call. But you have to make a call and stay connected for the 911 system to keep updating your location. It does not work every time.

AT&T calls it FamilyMap. Cost $9.99 a month for 2 people service. There is also a 5 person service at higher cost. http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-s........ails.jsp?LOSGId=&skuId=sku3690243&catId=

Verizon also does. It is called Family Locator and cost a extra $9.99 a month. http://products.vzw.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_familylocator_features

You can find those phones by laptop or cell phone.

But remember, that phone you are tracking has to be on. With a 12 volt adapter, it would work. But my AT&T phone sometimes decides that I have a un-registered sim. I have to turn it off and turn if back on. Under the un-registered sim situtation, I don't think it could be tracked by that system. I can not even call out then.

a locked phone will NOT dial out and should NOT make calls and have addon charges, hooked up to a 12v /usb5v phone adapter, it should last for many months, but it maybe necessary to replace the battery every few months ? i've never left a cell phone on constant charge 24/7
( I have had daily use with PC on a tether-charging cable , battery lasted about a year ) it was unlugged for about 16hrs day and plugged in for about 8hrs

verizon has service for tracking family members, they changed the name of it..to 'family locator' it cost $10 a month it allows you to find the phone location via display on you phone or PC login
