I bought a Walmart $348.00 Acer laptop 2 years ago on a black Friday morning sale.......there were people lined up but the sale didn't start until 8 am on the nose....... fortunately for me, I got the last one.....I got there about 15 minutes before 8 am and was exactly #20 inline.......by 8:15 I was on my way back home.......
The OP might not have gotten one either way but a sale that starts at 8am should start at 8 am......no excuses!

I got the same Acer mentioned by 96Bounder30E above, but nearly did not. When I went in the store to the electronics section I asked the clerk where the sale computers were and was informed that they had sold out. Another clerk overheard the conversation and spoke up that they had not "sold out" that they were just out of them on the floor and that there were several more on a pallet in the storeroom, proceed to the store room and brought out 4 more and said that there were 4 more still back there. I got mine and left. I wonder how many folk were told that they had sold out and just left without one.

You miss the point. The people who camped out at 2am would be the same people at 4,5,6,7, or 8 and still gobbled them all up. So, what is the point of having people in camping gear and sleeping bags in front of the store?
If there were any left or they had tons then they would have had to wait all night.
When the new PS3 went on sale at Best Buy they were camped out 24 in advance. They had tents, cots, stoves, etc... When the sale started they found out the employees had purchased the entire stock. NOW THEY had a reason to complain and they did. It got so nasty they cops showed up. When you have an actual reason to complain then have at it, when you show up 15 minutes before a sale and you wouldn't have gotten one if you showed up 4 hours early then give it a rest.
The thing to do IMHO for the retailers would be to NOT advertise the sale at all. Just put the items on the floor at whatever time they would like and folk will buy them anyway and pass the word. Deals, if they really are deals, will be sold without all the hubbub of a "sale" and the problem is solved.

Walmart knows that a certain number of customers will buy some other PC model since they are already in the store and others might buy something in other departments just to satisfy the buying addiction.
"GET THEM INTO THE STORE" is the name of the game. That's business.
