We tow our 2004 Nissan Frontier behind our Class A MH.

We recently found that we had some cupping issues with our tires. Not too bad evidently as we just noticed it with 43k miles on the tires. We are not full timers so we don't tow the Nissan too often.

I had read a thread here that stated the problem may be due to the MH and the toad being different heights. When we first set this up we had a hard time finding a ball mount with a long enough drop. The one we have now is 7 3/4". The MH is still a little higher than the toad but we couldn't find a ball mount drop that was any longer.

Surely we are not the only ones with this issue. I have searched JC Whitney and a few others online and found nothing with more of a drop.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

This is what I am talking about in case I wasn't clear.

E-Trailer has just about everything like this. I got one from them several years ago for my previous tosd.

But, if your hitch and toad hookups are within 3 or 4 inches, it shouldn't be a problem- better if coach is a little higher rather than lower. Cupping can result from turning, especially on tight turns, because you are dragging the toad sideways. Be especially careful starting out. If the coach steering is turned at start up, it will seriously drag the front of the toad before the front wheels can turn to follow the coach. Try to start the coach straight, then gradually turn the steering wheel slowly to allow the toad wheels to move more smoothly.

Then again, it could be that the toad just needs an alignment and/or wheel balance. Both can cause cupping even when not being towed, just normal driving.

brobox... I don't' have them connected right now but I am thinking not more than a couple of inches. The MH is higher. I always make sure the tires are turning the right direction...or at least after one time when I didn't and drug the toad a few yards in the soft dirt. I stay outside while DH drives forward to make sure everything is turning properly, so I don't think that is the problem.

As others said, maybe it is just an alignment problem and it was found to be slightly out or alignment when we put on new tires.

So you don't think a few inches lower than MH will be a problem?

The maximum out of level is 3 inches. However, some vehicles do not tow well being even a couple of inches out of level, excessive tire wear. The more overhang you have on the rear of your motor home, the more critical towing level becomes. If the alignment does not correct the problem, a drop down receiver is a lot less than replacing front tires. I would measure how far you are out of level and if more than 2 inches I would install the drop down receiver.
