If you do not know where it is look it up on Google Maps.
We go every year for about two weeks in January and love it but if you are strictly a luxury resort type it is probably not for you. For most people a few days is probably enough.
The second half of January is when the peak RV action is but the whole scene goes from January 1 to mid-March. If you go there any other time of the year there will be nobody home.
The place is hard to describe but I liken it to what was called a "happening" a few decades ago. The entire town is one huge flea market with almost everything under the sun for sale. Much of it is low quality, typical flea market stuff, but there are some unique things you won't find in most places. The second half of January is when the big RV tent show, which is a marketplace for all kinds of RV services and accessories, takes place. There are also numerous RV dealers selling new and used RVs. You can find bargains if you look.
There are regular RV campgrounds in town but they are booked up well in advance. There are always dry camping sites available at several temporary RV grounds on the edge of town, and there is an almost unlimited supply of space on the BLM land.
Come on out and join the fun.

I drove through there in August of 1996, and it was still there in the summer, but very few RV's stay there in the 115 summer heat.
Starting about now, and until mid-April, there will be thousands of RV's going into Quartzsite. They get about 100,000 each winter. Some stay a few days, some for months. The solar sales place open for the winter from mid-October until about the end of March.
There is a flea market that stays open almost the entire year, but the popular places open up in mid-October to November, and stay open until March 1 or so.
Camping in the desert is almost free, and that brings a lot of people. You can get a 6 month pass for about $170 a year that also entitles you to garbage pickup and water. Pump out trucks come through the campground and usually charge about $15 per black tank pump-out.
You see a lot of RV's with solar panels on the roof in the larger camping areas. There are also a bunch of full service campgrounds that are really reasonable cost. Less than $20 a night in many cases.
Many retiree's send their mail to "General Delivery Quartzsite" and there is a long line at the post office to pick up the mail.
Yes there is a lot to do, and the most popular time is January 15 to 30. Some like it a lot, some vow never to return, but most agree it is interesting.
I like the free campground at Polomosa Road, about 7 miles north of town. Hard packed gravel is not nearly as dusty as the town itself, or the long term visitors areas south of town. It also offers much more space between RV's.
Many want to spend time with the grandkids during Thanksgiving and Christmas, then arrive after that.
Do another search but spell it "Quartzsite". They do have the best Rv show in Jan. And lots of people do boondock for days, weeks, or months in the surrounding desert. There is something for everyone.

We go there for a week of swapmmeting, off-roading and geocaching. We have 2 different groups that we stay with so it breaks it up. I'm counting the days!!!
It's fun to get up on one of the hills and look across the desert and see RV's for as far as you can see.
Its a Harbour Freight times a thousand, its where Root Farms sells their goods for 30% more then we pay here and people are glad to pay it, its where Paul Evert and Guaranty try to get rid of there left over inventory, its where La Mesa claims their going out of bussiness every year, its a flee market without a cause, its where the average age is 79.8 and going strong, its a place to make new friends and meet old ones, its a place to boondock and feel secure, its a great .... place to be. This has to be the most accurate discription of Quartzsite I've seen, especially La Mesa going out of business every year.
