The only comment I'll make about the O/P's original post is that I was hoping to read a compairson of PC v/s MAC which would make it easier to choose which to buy

Instead I got a compairson of who many folks are buying this that or the other O/S.

Interesting. but....... I've found over the years that many folks do not seem to have what it takes to pick the best system.. Which sadly, is no longer marketed.

Sorry, I didn't think about it that way. Perhaps I should have titled it differently.

I modified my title to reflect your thoughts.

with MS, latest OS is the greatest thing, for what, two years, and now this is new one is so much better. How many times can folks be fooled by that crap.
Yup ... and don't forget the mid term (service packs) because things didn't quite work the way they were supposed to.

And sevice packs are a "bad thing???" Not only do they fix issues, they can add features. Apple has already released one update to Snow Leopard and the second one 10.6.2 is in beta testing and will probably be released before the new year.

Tom

Well they can be a bad thing if you can't install them and releases them causes problems.

Was attempting to install SP3, kept getting error that I needed more space and to delete 4 megs to make space. With 120 gigs of open space that really shouldn't be a problem. MS was of course no help getting the issue resolved. Had to go add a registry string to get the update to load. Now my Sr. Citizen In-Laws would have never been able to do that and would have been a serious problem for them.

But, yes they can be a good thing if you can get them installed.

Arguments on both sides have validity and both the PC and Mac will get the job done. What is the real difference, Mac as done a better job of making the computer a less intimidating tool. This less intimidation is helped by the Unix OS which makes devices easy to attach, mount, and remove unmount. Integrating applications that users need is another less intimidating aspect of the Mac. Ready to go and they all work together. Now the PC folks will say this is a bad thing but the PC does the same with IE, Office, and the many other applications supplied by Microsoft. Less application, generally speaking, the PC and even the Mac perform better.

Those that point to the numbers of PC vs Mac they have to understand that the PC is the default for business. There are a lot of careers riding on keeping the PC in business, I was one of them (MCSE) therefore, I do like the PC. In the business world, the Mac is just now taking a foot hold and I can say from experience the trend will continue in the Mac's favor with the most rapid growth in servers.

Just like the RV debate, Class A or 5er, which is better. Depends on you, and what your needs are. The Mac does a great job but so does the PC, so my advise is to sit down with each system, check out the software you require and the software required to maintain the computer, have the family members take a look, and then make a decision.

The bottom line, both will do a great job, bashing either is a big mistake. Like me bashing you fine folks who RV in a Class A, not relevant.

Best of luck with the upside, cannot loose as both will get you there.

Good one Creeper, but in reality there are no more than 250,000 versions of THAT OTHER OS.

I don't have a MAC because I'm poor and I don't like their mouse.

It needs MO BUTTONS. I love my 4 Button Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. In fact it is the first version they came out with years ago and I found one for the wife too.

Man can not live on 2 button and a wheel alone.

If one has the money, then buy a MAC and give it a test drive.

$599 and use the keyboard and mouse you already have. Pretty cheap...

I've always hated Apple mice, but the new one has gotten my attention. I need to play with it more, but so far it does what I need. I might even buy one. I too need many, many buttons..

You're kidding, right?

In the very large company I work for, with many thousands of servers, there is not a single Apple server anywhere that I know of. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is making inroads, but nothing Apple.

None of the 50,000+ desktops are Macs either. There might be a Mac or two in an advertising department somewhere, who knows.

Just an FYI, that mouse will probably work on a Mac. I'm using an MS kybd now with the inteliixxx software from MS
