Anyone have a way to charge a toad battery while in tow ? I have seen the Toad Charge but am thinking there is a way to do it without a high cost.

Thanks

Why do you have to charge the toad while driving? What are you towing? Some cars require a fuse to be pulled to eliminate running the battery down. I have the vacuum pump that works with the braking system but I also have a charge wire from the MH to the toad battery that keeps it up in use. My Remco trans pump is powered from the MH.

Hi,

You can install something really easy.

Run some #12 wire from your motorhome to a 20 amp automatic re-set circuit breaker (Napa and other auto parts stores) and then to the rear bumper. Then go to a connection to the towed car, then to another 20 amp circuit breaker to the car battery. You need a breaker next to each battery, because both batteries can supply thousands of amps if not protected.

Some braking systems run down the battery in the towed car. My car, I use a junkyard cruise control motor to pull a cable to pull the brake pedal to the floor. Because I ran a vacuum line from my RV engine, then I have power brakes as well.

Good Luck,

Fred.

We have a TC, Toad is a 1974 Ford Bronco. My camper is plugged into the truck with the vehicle supplied TC plug in the forward part of the chasis. This leaves the rear bumper plug open for the Toad, in the factory plug on the truck is a supplied 12V + and a ground terminal also. I utalized this feature on a plug that is installed in the gril of the Bronco and ran the hot and neg. wires to the appropriate connections under the hood. This always gives me a charged battery and lights for the toad. Just the way I did it.

My feet are fine as long as they are traveling.

If you have a 7 pin trailer plug, hook a 10ga wire to the #4 pin (1 o'clock) black wire from your RV to the toad battery. Put a fuse in the toad wire and check to see if it is hot when the RV key is off. Some are hot all the time and some only when the ignition switch is on. If hot all the time, you'll have to pull the plug if you stay hooked up for an overnight stop.

If you don't have a 7 pin plug, you'll have to run a wire on the RV.

I have the toad and MH engine battery connected with a 12 gauge wire. Fused at both batteries, wired up through the 6 way connector.

Thats how the shop did the install on our 09 Wrangler.
They installed a circuit breaker by the coach battery ,and another one on the firewall of the Jeep.
Works great.

I've used this solar panel

Sun Force

for two seasons without any problems. Except that if you get a couple of cloudy overcast days in a row you may be out of luck.
