Anyone here use this model? We are in our second week of training at the clinic and then November 24th, we stay home to dialyze our daughter on this great machine.
Just curious if anyone uses it, how long it takes to get comfortable with it's use and until it becomes "routine".
"Nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill, but since we're on our way down, we might as well enjoy the ride". ("The Secret Of Life", James Taylor).
I don't have any experience with this unit but found this forum board Nx stage

We have been using the NxStage for over 2 years at home, absolutely love it for the ease of use and the wonderful tech support they have available 24/7/365, we do it 6 days per week, about 3.5 hours per run, but most patients vary in time a lot, from 2.5 to 4 hours per. The training is pretty intense and may seem a little daunting at first, but once you are home and in charge of the treatments it becomes less stressful quite soon, the manuals are really useful when you have questions, but I haven't looked at ours for a couple of years.
The best I can offer is to set up a step by step routine that works well for you and stick to it religiously, that way you are less prone to those mistakes that can take place, and they will, but they are all fairly easy to recover from. I have an ironclad rule they I cannot be interrupted when putting the patient on the machine - the phone, a visiting Nurse or Doctor is completely ignored until they machine is running. check out Ihatedialysis.com, they are a great group of patients for patients and have a separate section for NxStage users, lots of answers to questions you might have, or feel free to PM me anytime.
