I am looking at buying a 2003 chevy 2500 w/6.0L V8. Does any one use a tow vehicle similar to this and what are your opinions on performance and reliability. Thanks in advance.

I have that in an 06 with 4:10 ratio. Pulls my 7,000 lb camper well. I also had an 04 Sierra same setup. Good truck as well. Gas mileage is dismal, but you don't buy a 3/4 ton for mileage. I get about 11 around town and 8-10 pulling depending on speed.

I have an '04 with 6.9L v8 with the 4:10 gears. My trailer also is about 7,000 pounds and I get about the same results as shelbyd. Pulls our trailer just fine. Put it in tow/haul mode and off you go!

I had an 01 chevy 2500HD CC w/4.10 rear end. I towed an 06 Outback 9800 lb GVWR and had no problems. The load would pull it down on long grades and in the hills. Hope this helps. I did have the 6.0 L engine.

124,000 miles and counting! I did just recently replace the starter and water pump. Not bad considering its seven years old.

I have a 02 silverado 2500HD extended cab short box with the 6.0 gas engine. I have replaced the water pump, belts and hoses. Have had a few other things that needed work on. I have 163,000 miles on it and it is still running strong. I Pioneer 23T6, its weight is 6800 lbs. Also I pull a mdump trailer for work. It pulls no problem. It gets about 8 to 10 mpg. If in your budget I would go for the Duramax. Better fuel economy and more power. Don't get me wrong this continues to be a very reliable truck!

I have a 2001 and pull my KZ at about 6500 lbs and pulls like a dream. We also load up the back up the truck with firewood genny and whatever else fits when we go boondocking. Still works very well. Luv our truck.

I've got the 2001 version of the truck your looking at. I've only got about 75,000 miles on it and have been very pleased with it. My camper weighs in around 6400 pounds unloaded and I've carried a full load in the camper as well as 1000 pounds of firewood in the bed with no problems.
Based on my experiences with it, I have no problem recommending this truck.

Is it a dealer or private sale? Are there any maintance records available? If the truck was maintained well, not abused, and priced right you may have a deal. Also, is it a one owner, 2nd owner? Is it a S.C. titled truck? If that truck is from out of state walk away. Especially if it is from up my way in New England. Could have been used to plow and there may be undercarriage rust if it was not run through car wash in winter months. Sorry to throw all this at you. Don't want to see you get screwed.
