I just will ask What do they look like and what is it like to change out?Can I do it as a Home back yard fix a lot of stuff Myself type?If so I think I will buy one and keep it in the M.Home in case of a need .I have 2 air's and think one is more BTU's also one has heat.Tell Me what You all think of spending a few bucks for one or two if they are different sure beats the heat if needed..Bushman
They are easy to change out. They are located under the AC cover on top of your unit. Remove the cover, look on the side of the coil housing. There will be a silver box hels in place with a couple of screws. The capacitor is in that box. Unplug you shore power, discharge the capacitor (short out across the terminals), unplug the connections, plug the new one in. You're done! There are 2 in that cover. One is smaller in diameter, this is the start capacitor. The other is about 2" in diameter, and about 3" tall. It will have 3 terminals on it. When they are bad, you can usually see bulging or leaking from the terminal end cap.

Maybe someone will post pictures of the process and a link to a online supply?

B Salgado; Wow that sounds easy I can do that I have to change the rear air unit cover because of cracking so I will get some Numbers off the capacitors and find a spare to have just in case of a failure. The front air was replaced just before I bought the M.H.so it will or should last a few years longer.Think that one was a easy fix makes for a little thought... Thanks for the reply.I run My air on the 7000 Gen. in the M.H.also I use a 3000Is Honda...one question would it be smart to replace both or just the one that looks fried?....John and Thanks again

If the AC is starting and running fine, then I wouldn't worry about it. If it is tripping breakers on startup, then you might have an issue. This is not a part that "wears out". This is a part that "could" fail. It might, it might not. If it does, and you don't have a spare, then it will not work until you get one. I wouldn't waste my time changing something that isn't broken. Having a spare is a good idea, but still not necessary.

Hi All.

Think of it this way. "You can only get ripped off" if you let yourself get ripped off. Almost everyone is more or less computer savey these days. Do a search for the best price. As for the Start Capasitor. I got mine for less than $12.00. It comes with instructions. If you can read, then you can install a Start Capasitor. Come on now, there is only one wire to attach. Mine already had a Male Spade connector on the Capasitor Wire. There was nothing to un-do. Just plug the spade on the existing wire. Good Luck. Happy Campinng. Dan & Jill

In my line of work (A/C repairman ) I pay around $3.00 for capacitors on average, of course I am getting them at the wholesale rate and not the retail rate.

To have me come and install a capacitor, your talking $90 for the part and $60 for the service call.

So getting it for a DIY price of $30 doesn't seem too bad of a deal.
A 3000% override on the capacitor? When I used to repair computers I would charge 30% on the parts and a $25 service call and I felt bad about charging so much. For what you charged you should have done the install for free. No wonder people are upset about labor and parts costs!!

Yes the install and labor are "free". The part cost has this factored in. The total would be $150 all said and done for me to come to the home, $60 service call and the part $90.

So you get the service call, a diagnosis of the problem, a part(s), the part(s) installed and our warranty for $150.

I spend every day of my life trying to understand that other people in this world do things differently than I do.

quabillion's not ripping anybody off. If the consumer doesn't like it, they can do the research, buy the tools, make the mistakes, gain the experience, etc. and go for it. What people don't realize is the "value" of a repair. If quabillion got me back on the road quickly for $150, quite possibly that's a good deal, even if he used $5 worth of parts. His training, experience, etc, are part of the cost. He's gotta stand behind the work too.
