Ok since most of you ,who have been doing this way longer then me "6 months"
say no to a propane heater . What do you do to keep the van warm when you are in the rocky mountains in january ? . I don't want to bring my generator to supply power . It's really only for the night and sleep time . During the day I am a leather craftsman so I will be set up inside , at night I'll be in a parking lot . Any help from you LIFERS and LONG TIMERS would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks , Chain

I do not know of another option... I used to have a class B and used a small Coleman catalytic heater.. One of the small propane canisters screwed into it.. The can would last 7 hours or so on high.. It worked great! You will want to make sure there is some sort of a barrier separating the front where the windshield is.. I hung a blanket just in front of the front seats..
It worked great! Where will you be travelling?

I don't really know where we'll be , the better half handles the show stuff but I think we'll be in Denver at the end of January . I looked at that coleman catalytic heater and they sell an adaptor to hook it up to the RV tank system . I will most likely go with this set up but most seem to warn against this .

I have been camping for many years. No matter what type of camping unit I had other than a tent I had a built in propane furnace and never had a problem in over 38 years.

Just remember to keep a window cracked a little.. I never had an issue.. I placed it on the floor infront of the television (Ya know, where they usually are between the front two seets under the arm rest)
and there was plenty of room above where most of the heat was directed.. Good luck with it and have fun.. Also, I am sure you will try to find a place to plug in... Ya never know where you may find a place... Parking garages, on the sides of buildings.... As long as you are ok with doing that..

What type of B do you have? I have a 91 Roadtrek. I use to do the craft show all the time. I always used my built in propane heater when at a show. I just left the front passenger window cracked about a 1/4 ". Just enough for air to come in and not big enough for anyone to get in.

Sorry to be slightly off topic here but we are thinking of taking a Pleasure-Way to the Arches National Park in December. We will have full hook-up but will be propane furnace last us through the night? And will the tank freeze up because of the cold? (we do not have heat tape and all that stuff to protect the van from low temperature)

Not meaning to hijack the thread...but does anyone have an opinion on using a small Kerosene heater?

We're hoping to build a Sprinter van next year with no propane system, and were thinking about Kerosene for the occasions when we'll need some heat. We've used one at home for many years to supplement our heat each winter and have been quite happy with the amount of heat produced on little fuel. Figured we'd have to leave a window cracked or a vent open...but are there any other concerns I'm missing?

Not too keen on fool'n around with flammable liquids inside the van firstimer. IMHO stay far far away from a mind-set of kerosene usage for heating those tootsies...

Hi
Propane should last for a few days. If you have full hookup you can also use a electric heater to offset propane use. When you mention tanks, I am assuming you mean grey and fresh water tanks. It should be ok at just above freezing temps but after that I don,t know.
