Can a chevy silverado 1500 4.8 v8 with the 3.23 and a tow capacity of 4700 tow a 4100 lb dry weight travel trailer in the mountains?

Perhaps on the downhill side only! I had a 4.8 in a Tahoe and it would barely move itself in the mountains. I certainly wouldn't do it.

4100 dry weight will easily be over the truck's 4700 trailer rating by the time you load up.

Frankly, it's not going to perform well on the flat, let alone in the mountains. You will certainly spend a lot of time at 25-30MPH in 2nd gear.

It WILL tow it, just not very fast.

Why would you want to take an empty trailer to the mountains? Just curious.

Yes, but you'll not like the results on flat ground.

Don't forget, any weight above a 150# driver has to be subtracted from that 4700# Max Tow Rating.
You probably need to be looking for a trailer weighing no more than 4200-4300# FULLY LOADED.

I have that setup and I'm afraid to pull a 6X12 cargo trailer with it. Lot of HP, but no pulling power, grabs 2nd gear going up a hill in cruise control!
