Sounds like you're in the market for a full size crew cab long bed GM truck with the 8.1 gas or the duramax. You are trying to do too much with the escalade, which isn't really built for pulling the weight you are trying to pull. A 3/4 ton truck or maybe even a 1 ton truck would suit you much better. The power chip/blackbear tune will MAYBE get you 1mpg, you have to figure out if it's worth the cost to you to do that or not. Those coil springs in the rear are definitely more for a smooth ride than towing ability. I had a friend with an avalanche with the same setup in the rear and it sagged terribly with his 23' toyhauler hitched. Leaf springs are made to tow, the setup you have is just gonna cost you money. Trade the truck in or buy a bigger truck, you'll be much, much happier.

I don't need another vehicle/truck. I already have a Federal speced (no smog other than PCV) GMC 3/4-ton long bed crewcab w/overload springs crate 502 Edlebrock/Rochester quad and intake with dual exhaust and headers. I believe the 502 is rated at 513 ftlbs of torque at around 1600 RPM. It's a pullin' son-of-a-gun! It's our go-to tow vehicle when we go to the desert with toys. The Escalade is for vacation trips without toys/dune buggy/dirt bikes loaded on. Just trying to make the Escie the best it can be. It's just too comfortable to leave at home. There's just no chance I'll buy another new choked down vehicle in The Peoples Republic of California (PRC - pronounces PRICK).

And it is my Baby. I've had the truck, a 77, for over a quarter of a century and wouldn't trade it straight across for a new truck. It does everything I need it to do and more. AND it's paid for! I put the crate 502 in when the old 454 sucked a valve. Valve stem wore a hole in the rocker and the rocker pushed the retaining clips off the valve stem. That was a bad day in Flat Rock!
