Give me a Hemi, V10, 6.0 or 8.1 GM in the HD trucks. Heck, I would take a F250 with a 5.4 before I get a throw-a-way diesel that Ford is pushing nowadays.
Not throwing stones...
Last year I picked up an '06 CC V10 4.10 w/24000 miles on it for $24K. I have money to go RV'ing.

Ok, so I speak from Experience. I have owned the following
2000 F250 CC V10
2003 Chevey Duramax
2007 F350 6.0
All were crew cab short beds. The truck that gave me the least amount of trouble was the V10, I never did anything to it, I never worried when I was in the back country if it would stop, and I never worried that if I didn't drive it for a week or two I would have a problem
No, I didn't tow a 5th wheel, but I did have a Lance 845 self contained camper on the back and towed a Wrangler. My experience?, I could go up the grapevine here in California from either direction and pull 75 MPH passing people. I honestly never encountered a situation where I didn't have enough power.
Granted, if you hook up a 35ft 5th wheel to it I believe you would be in a world of hurt.
The biggest drawback with the V10 was mileage with the camper and wrangler in tow, it got down to 3 MPG on long, hard pulls (but I would be doing 70)
The gas engines just are in fact cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain. If you really do put 300K on a truck then maybe you get your money back, but honestly, how many people on this thread are driving a truck with 300k on it?
I am in the market for another truck, my wish?, is that Ford would come out with an Ecoboost 5.0 Liter. If they did, I just can't imagine why, even if I got a 35Ft 5th, I would want to put up with the issues and cost of the diesel.
The question is, can I hold out truckles until Ford launches that 5,o Ecoboost.......................
