I just received and installed my new 15K superglide. I opted for the multi-fit capture plate and I think I goofed. For those of you that have this hitch or a similar superglide model, some questions.
The capture plate extends beyond the end of the pin box by about 1 1/2 inches. This means that the included side shims just barely make contact with the leading edge of the pin box. Is this side support critical? If so, I can machine longer shims.
Because it extends beyond the leading edge of the pin box, am I at risk of leveraging the plate right off the kingpin when I back the truck into the camper?
The capture plate is held in place on the kingpin by one setscrew. From what I can see on the Superglide website pdf chart here it appears that most of the other plates might be held by as many as 4 setscrews that clamp the sides to the pinbox. True or false?
We plan to leave on Monday morning for a 2 week trip so your quick expertise would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

From what you describe, the multi fit capture plate, does not fit YOUR pin box. It may fit many different pinboxes. But probably not yours.
Call Pullrite. Tell them what you pin box is. They'll tell you what capture plate you need. I think Multi-fit may not be right for you.

I also have the multi fit capture plate. The leading edge does exttend a couple inches beyond the front of the pin box. The shims fit close on either side towards the front. It is held on by the one allen head screw and lock nut on the bottom behind the king pin.

Got the same plate on mine.It will work as is, but it might fall off when you unhook.I welded jack bolts on both sides on top of the blocks that hold the shims, they push on the side of the hitch above the footplate. No more problem.

You cannot knock it off as the kingpin goes through a hole in the center of it. Whatever you do don't take a welder to it. Set the shims up on each side in the front to eliminate any side to side play. Tighten the setscrew and lock nut to hold it tight to the kingpin. It will then start to slip down from the plate on the pinbox each time you uncouple it. Eventually it will fall off when unhitched and if you're lucky, not hit your foot. They don't tell you this when you buy it. East fix is to drill a 3/16 hole through the plate in the center of the wedge on the plate behind the kingpin and also drill through the plate on the pinbox. One small nut and bolt will hold it tight in place. There will be no strain on this small bolt as it's only purpose is to hold the capture plate up in place.

Use the Chart to find your plate. I tried to use the universal plate and found out that I needed one for the Trail-Air Tri-Glide pin box and had to arrange to have one drop shipped to me.

I used the "NEW" capture plate that requires the shims and one allen set screw with a lock nut. I also had the universal capture plate and about to install when I called PullRite, they said I did not need the universal plate, but to use the new plate. I have been very happy with the new plate which is attached to a LIPPERT 15000lb king pin hitch. If you deliver your 5ver for repairs or warranty work, make you remove your capture plate when you disconnect form your 5ver.
If the repair place moves your RV while being repaired, they will not be using a PulLRite hitch. Very simple to remove is a 7/16" wrench and the allen wrench that comes with the plate. The RV repair shop will damage the capture plate trying to move your RV with a standard 5th wheel hitch.

There are some major differences in the plates depending on your pinbox. Mine is a Lippert, and the plate is held on with only one allen bolt in front that forces a plastic block against the pinbox. I thought it looked goofy at first, but it hasn't move at all, and the front of the plate does extend out about 1-1/4".
The distributor initially sent me the wrong plate. It was for a Mor-Ryde box, and I noticed it had about 8 setscrews to attach the plate. I suggest you double-check with PR to ensure you have the correct plate for your box. Also, I understand most repair facilities have ways to get around having to remove the plate. I can see where it would be a PITA if you had to remove more than one attachment.
