Some pretty impressive results for using the lower hp/tq (DEF Equipped) version of the 6.7L Cummins.

"In the zero to 50 mph pulls, our Long-Hauler ran 18.57 seconds, with a best 30 to 50 mph run at 9.95 seconds (Hurt Locker numbers: Ford -- 21.05/12.64; GMC -- 20.60/11.39; Ram HD -- 23.09/13.90). You can see that the best time for the Long-Hauler was a good bit better than each of the Hurt Locker competitors"

"Our final test number collected on the 2,300-mile tour of the most Hurt-Locker-friendly Western states was to complete our fuel-economy data. By the end of the trip, we bought almost 300 gallons of diesel fuel, five gallons of DEF fluid and too many truck-stop beef jerky packets to count. Overall, we averaged 7.8 mpg***, with our best stretch of 300 miles registering just over 10 mpg***. We tried to keep our speeds between 65 and 70 mph and used the cruise control as much as possible. We didn’t do this to get great fuel economy while pulling a good load. We wanted to see how this 5500 HD concept truck could handle the same course and tests we used for our ultimate heavy-duty shootout — and we think it passed with flying colors.

An interesting review.

Dodge/Ram should make this one. Especially considering the room in the Mega cab aspect of it.

Lot of folks who buy the F-450 or F-550 Fords would go that direction.

And to be honest, I'd love to have it myself. Big 1191 Lance truck camper on it or towing a heavy Mobile Suites/New Horizon fifth wheel, it would be just the right vehicle for the right job.

It is a great looking truck and appears to be very capable. Taking a project like this to production is a very expensive proposition and the sales numbers probably will not support doing it.

I am of the opinion that if it cann't be pulled with a 1 ton dually I'll go to a class 6. The trailer they had hooked up could be pulled with a 3/4 ton.

Interesting article. I question how many sales they would make but there are some features - air suspension and larger fuel tanks - that I like. I must say, the fact that it has a built in gun safe made me smile.

We're totally happy, content, and in love with our current primary GMC "Pull Dog" (see sig). But!!!!! If Dodge ever brings the "Long Hauler" to market, we've got dibs on the first one!!!We're buyin that sucker!!! "The Silver Fox" will just have to get used to becoming our back up "Pull Dog" to the "Long Hauler"

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!

Not so, my 3/4 ton is rated at more than that and I have pulled more it was anything but unpleasent. I do like the looks of the truck but dont understand why they detuned it.
