Recently when operating my slide to the travel position, it suddenly started going out all by itself until it was completely extended! When operating the switch I could still hear the motor operating but no slide movement.
The main gear driving the rack had one missing set screw and the other one was loose. The gear had moved over approx. an inch and was no longer driving the rack.
I also found the motor support bolts were loose and a bronze bushing on the other side of the shaft had nothing to hold it in place. The bushing was merely riding on the shaft and not supporting it.
In this picture you can see when the slide is fully extended it pinches the wires supplying power to the lights in the slide.
Repairs were easy, after moving the gear back into place I secured the set screws with thread locker. Bolts holding the motor, thread locker. A cotter pin now holds the bronze bushing in place, and I removed a portion of the 2x4 interfering with the power wires. The hardest part was merely accessing all of this to work on.

A friend had this happen to her 5th wheel except it was goin in, not out thank goodness. It had a junk rocker switch that activated the slide and the metal contact bar inside came loose and shorted out between the hot and "in" contacts. It kept trying to run until it blew a fuse. Good thing it didn't short to the "out" side as she was going down the highway. That would have been exciting.
