.......and how fine do you grind them ?

I have used two scoops in the grinder and ended up with fine beach sand consistency. I have used four scoops and ended up with coarse river sand consistency. Both are OK in our 6 cup coffee maker. The coarse grind seems to taste better but is more expensive per cup.

Any thoughts ?

I prefer to grind it on the coarse side. Over-grinding ruins good coffee, IMHO.

I use a bur grinder. You can select from very coarse to very fine. For drip you get stronger coffee with the finer grind. I use 50 grams of beans for 14 cup coffee maker.

It was the main reason I put in a little 400 watt converter in a handy spot. Fresh beans ground daily even while camping.

1/8th cup of full roast beans for every two cups on the coffee pot. We each have our special mugs, and ten cups on the pot gives us two mugs each without waste.

I have a new Baratza Encore burr grinder. I grind fresh roasted beans every day for every pot we brew (Melitta Filter).
I have used a Krups 223 Burr grinder for more than 30 years and just got the new grinder, the Baratza, which is excellent.
If you are using one of those with the blade, you will never get consistent grinds. Try a burr grinder, and of course, they are not all created equal.

Another vote for using a burr grinder. We have the Solis Barzata Maestro and use it every day. IMHO those little "spinning blade" devices which are sold as coffee grinders are junk because they don't produce a consistent grind. A burr grinder gives you the same coarseness every time.

I am using the newest model of the "Baratza" it supersedes the Maestro. I bought one for my son last year and then decided to get one for myself. It is a great grinder and will grind fine enough for Espresso as well...many don't and the "spinning blade" can't.

If anyone is using a KRUPS 223 burr grinder please let me know.
