My post was correct in stating that I have a Ford 464. I realize that Chevrolet made a 464 and Ford made a 460. Ford also made a 464 that they put in the L-53 chassis. It is rare. I need information on where to find a used or new head for it. The head cracked at the bolt holes leaving only about 1/4 inch of threads. Not enough! Can such a head be repaired? Welded and new holes drilled and tapped? It's a cast iron head. Any help will be appreciated.
I apologize!! I was given the wrong information. Mine is an F53 chasis and a 460 engine (Ford). It should be much easier to find a head for a 460 Ford than a 464 Ford (since there is no Ford 464). Thanks for your help, all. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Update: I drilled out the broken manifold bolt and head cracked at bolt hole. I removed the head and took it to a welder who welded the two rear holes with a special bronze/steel weld. Took head and manifold to machine shop where they re-surfaced the manifold, re-surfaced the manifold side of head and drilled and tapped the new manifold bolt holes. I re-assembled the head and manifold using new grade 8 manifold bolts. The welding and machine work cost $275 and the gaskets were $100. I did the work myself so I had no labor costs except the cost of the rub I bought for my aching muscles.
