When I picked up my trailer, the dealer put a bolt through the coupler lock, put a nut on and sent me on my way. Sure works, but is kind of tedious.
So what does everyone else use? I want to replace the bolt solution, but don't really want anything with a key, as with my luck, it will rust and at some point I won't be able to uncouple at the campground.
I am thinking of using an aluminum carabiner as shown below: easy on/off, won't rust, should do the job. I have one, and it fits perfectly. So what do you guys use?

I use a padlock. Note every now and then someone reports where kids? have unlatched the coupler, as a joke I suppose, at gas stations and the like. They can't do that if it is locked.

Yeah, I always check before I start driving, but I assume I could forget at some point. Never heard that before, but that's a bad joke ....

I've used one of these PTO pins for years. You should be able to get them in the trailer section of any store that has one or a farm supply store.

I have used a keyed coupler lock since day one.

exactly which lock are you referring to? I always use a lock for my receiver pin. I have seen kids pulling keepers off of the pins at boat trailer parking areas. I use a bicycle lock for the TT hitch when we are connected to the TV. When my TT is parked and unhooked I use the Divers-tech lock on my TT hitch

No my coupler I use on e of these
On my receiver I have a hitch safe with spare keys in it I keep it on even when not towing as the DW has a habit of locking her keys in.

I use the pin that came with the coupler, or, in the case of the old coupler that isn't drilled for a pin, nothing.
I have never used a padlock or other locking device on any hitch. Never had a problem.

My keeper pin is a circle with a pin that is spring loaded. Just insert the pin and pull the circle over the end to lock it in place. The circle covers the latching mechanism to prevent the pin from coming out while traveling. What you show may work if the part that goes through the latch is large enough but mine only needs to move a little bit to get past the pin so I needed one that filled the hole completely. Whatever works is best

When towing my trailer, I use a four digit combination lock on mine. No keys to loose or keep up with. Quick to open.
