I am at 40,000 miles on my Allison 3000 transmission and according to posts here I am due for a fluid & filter change and service. I have an Allison transmission dealer here & they want $350 for the srvice with Transynd, filters & labor. Is this reasonable/

In my opinion that is a good price. Probably need 5 gallons of transmission fluid and new filters. I am "assuming" you are having then use TranSynd synthetic fluid.
Will be interested in prices in other parts of the country.

Transcend is about $18 a quart and filters are expensive of which there are two. $350 sounds about right.

I think that sounds about right. Had mine done a few months back(an Allison 4060) and it was around 400.00(my tranny holds about 7+ gallons.

A search shows that Transynd is about $40 per gallon which surprises me since I remember it being lower. Oil products are skrocketing.

$28 a galloon is a good price. I think about the cheapest I have seen is about $50 a gal.

You don't say if you have ever had a fluid change before this. If you are driving a 2003 MH and are on the original fluid, IMHO you are way overdue for a change. The Allison service recommendations are based on both time and mileage. With Transynd Allison recommends a transmission refill at 100,000 miles or 36 months and a filter change at ~48 months. Many MH owners are using this as a guide for changing filters and fluid every ~4 years.

Do you know for sure that your MH had Transynd or was it filled with Dextron which has a much shorter change interval? If it did not have Transynd you actually need two fill cycles before it is completely changed over.

docj:
I am the original owner and the transmission has Transynd. It was serviced at 5,000 miles as originally recommended by Allison & Monaco. The confusion I have is the conflicting advice about when the next service is due. Two Allison techs at a Monaco rally told me that it was good for 100,000 miles and the info given on this site is that I am overdue. ???????????
