Have been to DeSmet, Mansfield and Malone. As a kid I pretty much had "Farmer Boy" memorized so Malone is my favorite hands down. Walking across the pastures down to the Trout River was/is a sureal experience. If you go to DeSmet there is a town nearby called Brookings that has a restaurant called "Caspers" We had the best steak dinner there and it was very reasonable!

Thanks everyone. This all has been very helpful.
I'm going to perform a revision to our trip based on all the input.
I'm sure I'll have additional questions after mulling this over a bit more.
