I dont have a dodge but I will tell you what works for me. The higher tunes generally have better MPG if you keep your foot out of it. the lower tunes are safer for towing and have lower EGT's. If you tow heavy on the higher tunes something might give, and if it does it wont be cheap.

I have the Predator on my 2004 Dodge Dually. I run it on the best tune all the time. I have had zero problems. I have and belive me I have realized at least 5 mpg increase when not towing. Towing I get about 3 mpg increase. My predator simply optimized the fuel/air ratio and nothing else. It has three tunes built into it. The highest, that I use, the center one for towing heavy loads and the bottom one for zero tune just like factory. Since I only tow about 13,300 lbs. I always use the highest tune. I do use tow/haul to get my unit going or at low speeds BUT when I get to highway speeds of 55-60mph that I normally drive, I turn the tow/haul off and enjoy the lower rpm's and better mileage associated.

There seems to be 2 Predators marketed out there. An older one like I have for older trucks and a newer one for newer trucks than mine. I have NO EXPERIENCE with the newer one, which I suspect is what you have.

My truck is strictly stock, no modifications to air box or exhaust at all. I am thinking about going with a 5in. exhaust and a newer muffler cat back duals. I think that by letting my diesel breath easier that I will get less wear and tear on the engine and maybe even a little more mpg.

Oh by the way, my Predator added 130hp and 210 ft. lbs. to the rear wheels. I definitely can see and feel a difference and it makes towing so easy. I hardly even know the trailer is back there.

The MPG increase is flat out BS, IMO. More power is more fuel pure and simple.
I run the mild tune and nothing has broken, with no MPG increase. Your 48RE will not like towing heavy with the high tune, taking odds on that statement.
Stock intake is your best bet unless you want a high HP mud puller. Replaced the muffler way back when, didn't do squat other than the better audio. She perrrrr's like a cat.

I don't have the predator, but I have a tuner. I don't find any increase in mpg, but there is a definite power increase. The Hypertech has three settings, I usually use the middle one. Exhaust and air intake is stock.

If you haven't purchased the Predator yet give this a look... EFI Live

I had the Predator and quickly realized it was very limited as all "can tuners" are. EFI is the tool used to make the tunes. There are many professional tune makes that will help you get started with EFI Live.

I have it on my 07 Dodge. The towing setting is all I have run and it works well. You can run any hill on the I 15 at 70 mph and it gets the same milage as stock(2500 mile to and 2500 mile from comparison at 26000 combined). No idea on the other settings

I get better mpg with my tuner if I keep my foot outta it. Not enough to justify buying the tuner, but then again I didnt buy it for the mpg gain. About 3mpg better than when it was stock. Truck had a CAI before and after the tuner. I think the CAI did nothing but make the turbo whine louder. And I also installed a 5" turbo back exhaust. No cat, no muffler. Just a 30" resonator. The exhaust did nothing for mpg gains.

My truck has been demoted to grocery getter now that we have a MH. Most I haul with it now is a enclosed 4 place sled trailer. Weight unknown.

I only hand check mpg. I only use the overhead for temp and tripometer.

If more power equals more fuel why haven't you seen a decrease in MPG?

Try hand calculating your mpg jetenbu. I think you'll be surprised by the results. My Hypertech makes the in cab mpg readout TELL ME I'm getting about 3-5 mpg better than I actually am. I've used the Superchips and Edge as well, same result. Inaccurate mpg readout.
