I did a trip report, Death Valley ~ A whole different Dimension, on another forum, about this very park and the Dust Storm, that came over the Valley and Furnace Creek, this February, is pictured in it.
The temperatures are really what you are use too. Growing up on the plains, working the wheat harvest, it was not unusual to have temperatures 110°F to 115°F, but it was the humidity of 80% that was the killer. In Death Valley, the humidity is single digit. Once it gets to the Oven baking temperatures, with no breeze, then that is when it is uncomfortable. February and March 2012, was more than comfortable, this year.
Death Valley easily has become one of my top 5 National Parks. Visitation is starting to see an increase after its highest visitation mark of 1,227,583; in 1999. Sadly, the younger visitors are not visiting, probably because they find the video games more interesting.
we were there for the sandstorm too. were you there when it rained? had an awesome rainbow at Stovepipe Wells. We were originally going to stay for 4 days and stayed for 11. It's now on my "favorite places" list.

I probably wouldn't go there in April. Our April's (we're in the upper Mojave Desert) are similar as far as the wind is concerned. I have a had time convincing people from out of the area we have occasional hurricane force winds.
I loved DV also. We also drove to Ash Meadows NWR and that was amazing. The road in and out is a bit like a washboard but the springs were so blue it was just amazing. Love Scottys Castle tour also

+1 Well OK I could have done without the biting horse fly that followed me the whole catwalk to the spring...
Bka0721: Wow that is a great article! Excellent! Thanks.
Yes, the wind can get pretty intense in the spring, huh? Were we live outside of Reno gets really blustery too and I like weather - as long as it isn't dangerous!
I'm angling to replace the topless Samurai with a weatherproof Wrangler with a top, heater and AC but the DW doesn't want to- gotta love that!
So we actually enjoyed it. Neat to see dust devils on the valley floor.
Next time we will get out more and do Ash Meadows, Scottys, ghost mines and the other stuff!
