Here is a low to the ground Director's Chair (often used by motorcyclists) -

and more information at this website - Kermit Kamping Chair.

The chair presented by "Road-Trekker" looks very compact.

Gene,

That Kermit chair is expensive too and looks as if "some assembly required". The Alite chair appears to require some assembly as well. I like a chair that just pops open. The two GCI telescoping, Pico and Xpress Lounger chairs compress down to a laptop computer case and a pizza box size. That's good enough for me in a B.

We have been using the GCI Express Lounger for a few years and it is comfortable and opens and closes in about 5 seconds. In fact after seeing ours about 6 couples from out LTV Chapters have purchased them. We have had to become creative so we can tell them apart when we gather at our rallies. Love that they fold flat and store under our electric sofa along with our small fold up table.

Very nice! I might have to get one of those (shown in the first post). I was thinking a few days ago about what kind of folding chair I could get to take along in my very cramped van.

We have had 3 Xpress loungers for a year now. They fit perfectly in our RT.

The Alite chair low slung and leaning back reminded me of a beach chair. So I did a search on "beach chairs" and came up with this Amazon.com collection.

I use low chairs for two reasons- first, because they take up less room in my really small outfit, and second because I'm determined that I'm NEVER going to be unable to get up out of one, no matter how old I get! (I'm breathing down sixty's neck right now...)
My present chairs are a couple of the old webbed aluminum version of the beach chairs linked to above- smaller than a full-sized chair, but not as small as I'd like them to be.

The nice thing about the Alite design is how compact it is...perfect for space saving, and also for the kind of cross-country hikes I like to take when I'm out in the boonies.

I'd definitely make room in my daybag for a little chair that would allow me to sit down and lean back without fear of getting the burrs and/or (weather depending) wetbottom one risks when just flopping down on the ground.

I use an upright chair because I spend a lot of time outside with my laptop computer on my roll-up table. The low-slung chairs or those that recline too much are not very comfortable for doing that, to say nothing of the difficulty in typing at shoulder height. The Pico looks like it might do the job for me. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a local vendor that has one in stock so I can go try it out.

It was available at REI stores last year, now they only have the CGI Xpress which is almost similar to PICO, except that it's made of steel rather than the lightweight aluminum and non-telescoping legs.

Select Costco stores had the CGI PICO chairs last summer for only $25! hopefully they will carry them again.

The CGI Xpress Lounger has telescoping legs.
