Our motorhome has the central vac system which works well. But, I bought a powerful canister vac from Target as I wanted something to vacuum the toad with. It's a Eureka and works wonderfully. Very powerful. Also I use it to vacuum the storage bays.
Can't go wrong with the little powerful Eureka canisters and they are reasonably priced.

Well, we sure this has been a problem for a lot of RV'ers for a very long time. So here is what we hhave done. Some of you "Older RV'ers" will probably remember those "Little Carpet Sweepers", that use to be used in all Theathers years ago.
Well, we have one, and it does a Fantastic Job of Sweeping our Carpets, and Vinel Flooring. We know, theres no power there or any Suction to pick-up sand and gritey things deep in the Carpeting. But other than that is does a pretty darn good job, keeping the Carpets looking pretty darn good anyways.
Then we use a Small One Gallon Wet/Dry Shop Vac. We know, its not very big. But it does have the Suction to clean deeper into the Carpets. And with the Attachments, its easy to Vac the Window Treatments and Ceilings and any spider Cob webs, and Dash and Counter Tops, or what have you. Great for just General Cleaning.
And you can use it if anything gets spilled on the carpets also. When we did our Motorhome "Inside Make-Over", the parts that we replaced the Carpets in, we also installed Waterproof Padding, for just in case of. Its also great, if you should ever get a leak also, no ruined floors for us.
Neither of these takes up hardly any room, and between both of them, they keep our Motorhomme looking pretty darn good, while on the road Traveling.
We just use these while we are Traveling, and it keep our Motorhome looking good until we get back home again. Then we bring out the Good Vac, and Heavy Duty Cleaners.
Works great for our needs anyways. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill
We have used a Dirt Devil, a very compact canister for the past 16 years of full-timing. We stay in public parks and boondock in deserts a lot so we're not around pavement often. Honestly, we just don't get all that much dirt carried in and the carpeting area is so small that I would never want a larger upright. We go for months without changing the dirt bag. Mine gets easily in all the nooks and crannies and does a terrific job. Now, if we had a shedding dog, that might be different! I have heard that central vacs just aren't powerful but have not had experience with them. I would suggest you get a small cheap one and see how it works for you before investing in something expensive. Good luck!

Thank you all for your advise/experience and suggestions - and so FAST. I am thinking that the Dyson City isn't the way to go so we will continue looking at some of the other suggestions made on this post.
We are just so excited to finally be rid of the house and all the stuff that we collected over the years and to be able to hit the road that I would use lint rollers if I needed to!! This has been our dream for over 8 years and I hope to meet up with some of the wonderful members on this forum in our travels!!
We have a Bissel (SP?). Bought it at Walmart after trying several. Priced around $40.00. No bag wind tunnel. Handle comes off for easy storing and does a good job on carpet. Hose also comes off to clean crevices with attachments.
It does a very good job at a reasonable price. Hope you find what you need....Arnold

We don't have a vaccum in the RV, but do have a Dyson DC35 at home. It truly is AMAZING!
We have a huge long-hair dog (a Newfoundland) that we joke, "sheds a chihuahua every day"...the DC35 is great for going through the whole house every day to pick up any forming bunnies.
The battery is supposed to last 20 minutes on a charge, but it goes much longer...I've also gotten in the habit of not having it running when it doesn't have anything to suck up; which might be why it lasts longer.
