May 1st is a holiday here and always makes for a nice short trip opportunity. This year, the weather forecast promised the best weather to the east of us, in central Germany. So off we went to lower franconia, about 200 miles stright east from here.
Contrary to our normal interest, we decided we would mostly look at cities and villages instead of landscapes. So - no offroading here. Everything we did can be done by any RV. So if you come here and rent a Class C, you can do this :-)
We went to Ochsenfurt - Marktbreit - Kitzingen - Mainbernheim - Iphofen and back. This is a screenshot of our itinerary (Map (c) Google Maps, 2012):
All of the places are fairly close together (within about 10 to 20 miles) in a region east of Wuerzburg.

It was a busy day with a fair to celebrate the spring:
The next day, we continued to Marktbreit.
We know some fellow TC owners who live there, so we called ahead that we would be travelling through the area. Promptly we were invited for coffee and cake and, subsequently, barbeceue.
About 30 minutes after we arrived, Janina's phone rang. Friends of ours wanted to let us know that they had parked their TC right next to ours. What a coincidence! They, too, were invited over.

Marktbreit is a very romantic city. Like many towns in the area, it has retained its medieval city wall, which gives it a very fairytale, romantic athmosphere:
The next stop was Kitzingen. Some of you may remember the name, it used to host a US Army base. There, too, the RV parking was right on the river. It was the only time we had to pay for the night - 7 Euros.

The next day, we continued to Mainbernhein, another small town with its city walls intact:
It was 01 May, and they had put up a "May Tree":
We went to hike over to the next town, Iphofen. It's only 2 miles away.
Iphofen, too, still has the city wall. This is the gate where you enter when you come from Mainbernheim:
So... this was our trip to fairytale Germany, or Far-Far-Away-Land ;-) I hope you enjoyed it a bit. We had a great time, the people were good to us, the weather was perfect, and the truck and camper performed flawlessly. What else could you ask for?

Very nice Joerg - I've just shown your pictures to Sally - she really likes them too and didn't know that area was so 'fairy tale' - Not far from Bad Kissingen either - maybe we will check out one of those on the way through next month.

Better than the motorhome we rented last summer.
We have a connection thru Frankfort on the way back from a buisness trip this fall and were thinking of stopping for a week to test out euro-camping. Looks like we have some nice places to check out without putting on a lot of miles.
