My trailer was manufactured in April 2008. It has electric rack and pinion slides. I have towed this camper all over the continent without issue. On our last trip I crossed Ohio on the Turnpike. A few miles of that road are pretty rough. When we stopped my wife noticed that the kitchen slide was out on the bottom. I opened the slide a little further and then retracted it. Drove a few more hours and stopped for fuel and it was out again. About a strong inch on the bottom. This is a pretty heavy slide. It has the stove refig and pantry in it. When it moves the bottom is the first to come out and last to come in.
The slide moves in and out without any issues.
I have not ever used travel bars ( thus far )
Any thoughts about why this has started to happen all of a sudden?

Probably no longer fits as tightly as it once did. Mine have never backed out while traveling but I always use slide locks to prevent water intrusion while on the highway.

My guess is the clutch on the motor is worn just enough to let the slide move. Maybe it can be adjusted, I don't know for sure.

I have always used the slide locks (bars) that came with our trailer. I guess since they came with it the factory feels they where needed. Does your manual say to use locks?

Usually, they're bars or sticks that are placed on top of the slide when it's retracted, and brace against the outer wall, to keep the slide from moving out while traveling. My Komfort does not have them and I've never had the slide move, even when traveling down some fairly rough roads. Were I the OP, I'd be having the entire slide checked out to make sure that there's not a problem, especially after several years when the slide did NOT move.

My slide has two switches. One moves the slide in and out. The other (I think ?) is a "slide override switch" that should be left ON at all times except when manual moving the slide. I think it acts as a "brake" to keep the slide from moving while traveling.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

Why are you not using the slide travel rods? The electric slides are supposed to have these to prevent the problem you are having. Here is a hint, use the travel rods/bars and your problem will stop.

Don't see how slide locks on the top will hold the bottom in.
