We've had The Hartford for years and our experience is the opposite of billieg's. Excellent customer service and good rates. We had an accident on a car a few years back and they handled it efficiently and quickly. It was our fault, cost of repair was about six grand and our rate did not change. Just had another accident, not our fault and they are handling it well (so far).

We're in Arizona and the company is Trumball.

Ameriprise- half the price and twice the service. Been with them 20+ years. Great company.

I wanted to follow up on my post re The Hartford. The second accident (above) occurred while we were traveling (son was driving car at home). The car was totalled. We had our son UPS us the title so we could sign it and UPS it to The Hartford. Even with all of this remote communication, the process went smoothly. Two and a half weeks to get the check for the car's value. Anyhow, for us, this company has performed very well and I would recommend them for both car and house insurance.

I once asked my insurance agent about the AARP/Hartford price for our vehicles and homeowners insurance. The AARP price was higher than I was paying at the time.
The interesting thing about that was the fact that my insurance is with The Hartford, but WITHOUT the AARP "special pricing".
We have had one claim, in all the years we have had that insurance. Hail damage to the West end of the house. the adjusters arrived promptly, inspected the damaged area, AND inspected the rest of the house and the outbuildings for damage that I might have missed, told me to get the end of the house re-sided, and the gutters replaced. I got the estimates, sent them in, and received a check for the repairs. No problems.

I don't think The Hartford is allowed to see insurance in Mass. We clearly need to be protected from consumer predators such as them.

The AARP insurance purchased from a local Hartford agent is definitely more money. When purchased online is where the biggest savings occur. No commission for an agent.

Yep, my wife's Jaguar ran over some junk and ripped out the radiator, AC condenser and mufflers. Hartford told our garage to go to a junkyard and get used parts to fix it. We refused and Hartford sent us a check for $900 on a $2800 repair. They refused to put in rebuilt parts never mind new parts. They suck.

Went round and round with them and their reply was "get a lawyer" knowing full well it would cost us more to hire a lawyer than we would get back. Did I say Hartford sucks? Got Travelers now. Don't know if they are any better but the same price.

Unfortunately, most insurance companies will put used parts on to fix a collision repair when they can find them. This is usually stated in the policy which most people don't read......

It is usually stated as "reconditioned" or something like that. That means getting it from the junkyard and then cleaning it.

And just where are they going to find used servicable parts for a MH that's been in an accident? A little different for a car or truck where there's millions of each model made.

Hartford was twice as much as Goodsam/ GMAC. Progressive was 3 times as much as GMAC. I haven't had a claim so I can't vouch for quality there. We tried the GMAC, they seem to take payments efficiently.

I've had the same experience with Hartford and Progressive. We are now with GMAC thru FMCA at a very attractive rate. They also allow you to suspend your collision if in storage but, that may depend on your finance co. if financed.

And for me, accident free, living in Ma., Progressive was about half the cost of GMAC.

Go figure.
