Funny, I am a GS member and have their emergency road service, and I don't get junk mail. Perhaps that's the solution...

I opted out and it did stop the 'junk' mail but it doesn't stop the fake renewal notices. At one time I had their extended warranty and their ERS services. Certainly not a small pittance for yearly premiums yet, my obligatory comment ~ You can not access any of the RV'ing services, trip planning, campsites info, etc., on their website unless you pay an "additional" fee just to use the website.

Barring Rush Limbaugh, GS is the ONLY other website I know of on the internet that you have to PAY to view it even though you are a paying member of their services.

You use to have to keep your membership current to have Good Sam ERS.
You don't know junk mail until you own a business. Yellow pages and Internet listing that come looking like a bill for a listing that no one will ever read that can cost you $$$$ if you don't read the fine print. At least half dozen letters a day with tricky wording and yes I have a shredder that gets a work out.

I got tons of junk mail when we had them for ERS. That's why I switched to Coach Net. I would get their ERS cards all the time, but they weren't the real card.

I HATE all the junk mail they send.

This junk mail is exactly one reason we're not GS members any longer, too. Plus our other junk mail seemed to increase after becoming members so I felt our info had been sold.

One thing you can do which cost them $$ is to return everything to them in the postage paid envelope (if one is provided) BUT be sure and mark out the part where it says your payment is due, or write something big across the bill stating that it isn't due yet. They have to pay for each returned letter (it used to be charged by weight just like any other postage), and when they get enough back with out the renewals in them, maybe, just maybe, they'll catch on!

Hmmm, GS actually 'pays' for unscrupulous direct mailings that nets them a 'loss in revenue' from dropped memberships BECAUSE of their direct mail policy. What's wrong with this picture? Their financial history tells the story!

Think bank failures, golden parachutes and the market crash, AGI was one of THE biggest ones, only thing is they owned waaay too many companies so the gov had to bail them out.
GS ~ Affinity ~ AGI all one in the same.

"The FDIC estimates Affinity's failure will cost its deposit insurance fund $254 million."

"On August 15, 2009, AGI failed to make a $6.2 million interest payment to bondholders, and Standard & Poors subsequently lowered AGI's credit rating to D. Standard & Poor reported that they had taken this view because bondholders will be receiving less than par value for the notes and because of the company's highly leveraged financial profile, weak operating outlook, and limited liquidity given the near-term maturity of its senior credit facility. In May 2011, AGI announced that it was changing the company's name to Good Sam Enterprises."

So it's no surprise how they do business.

That what the membership dues are for...to send more junk mail to generate new members, to get new dues so they can send out more junk mail.......

Hey folks-
Just a few notes on the Good Sam Club renewal direct mail efforts:

• We have reduced the amount of mailed renewal notices per member by 50% this year
• We have reduced the lead time for mailing notices to 120 days prior to expiration
• We provide three additional options for renewing – web, Camping World store and phone
• In an effort to reduce direct mail we have also provided a special auto-renewal option where members can have their dues charged to a credit card. We notify members approximately 30 days prior to billing their cards. Members can cancel the automatic process at any time. We offer a 25% discount to members who opt into the automatic renewal process.

Our goal is to provide enough notice in advance of expiration to allow members to renew and avoid a lapse in coverage. Members travel and have other financial obligations so we try to maintain a proper balance between mailing too early or not early enough.

You can opt out of any mailings selectively at the Good Sam Club website. Technically you control what comes to your mailbox.

All changes we have put in place this year are at your request, our members. We never intentionally mislead or trick members. I hope this clarifies some miscommunication or misperceptions.

It's not a matter of how 'far in advance' the renewals came in the mail, it was the fact that every one of them purposely where printed with had an earlier 'incorrect' date of expiration that did not match the 'actual' expiration date.

So I guess this means that a long standing member who chooses not to foolishly give out personal credit card info on line for auto pay is punished and made to pay more for their membership?

My problem with auto-pay is the hassel they give you when you want to stop auto-pay or opt out all together
