No who remembers the old Chrysler products up through the late 60's that had left hand threads on one side of the car and right hand threads on the other side!! Stud had a "L" or "R" stamped on the end of the stud.

For what purpose did they use different threads?

Maybe so the guys on the assembly line knew what side of the car they were to work on that day.

What is the best practice when putting wheels back on? Should I use some never seize or not use anything? I am not sure if the lube may enable them to come loose easier. Any suggestions?

There will be the nay sayers.

However, if you are keeping that camper 10 or more years, best to use something to avoid galling...

I have used anti seize on all lug studs for at least 20 years and never had an issue.

I have about twice that time and have/havn't used all different type of lube on lug nuts and have never had a problem. The anti-sieze potions are longer lasting than just oil or other, you should have just one application that lasts for a few years.

If the lug nuts are removed at least once a year when doing a brake/bearing inspection, they will never accumulate enough rust to be a problem.

Our early 70s model Taurus TT didn't have nuts. It had four bolts per wheel. The ones on one side were "R" and the ones on the other side were "L". I don't remember which was which. In the four years that we used the thing, my dad never took a wheel off. Then it sat unused for another two years before he sold it.

We also never had a spare tire for it. Sold it with the original tires on it.

the theory I was always told was that they would always self tighten and wouldn't have to worry about a lug nut/knock off coming loose. Don't know if it was really true or not.

I replaced a lot of messed up lug bolt when I had a repair garage, in the LH lugnut days. I lube mine, they pull done better. I put on new wheels last year, made a 250 mile trip and checked the tq and none of them budged. Craig
