I am trying to increase my mpg when towing. Currently get 19 at 1600 rpm about 50 mph, any downshift ups the rpms to 2100, mileage drops to 10.5.

Anyone with experience re k&n filters, aux radiator fans, computer chips, exhaust systems , air boxes?

Which e the most effective?, cost effective?

Thanks,

Most effective:

45-50mph, slow to a crawl up hills.

Unhook the trailer

Stay home.

If you are operating a properly maintained tow vehicle and trailer, nothing else you do will materially improve mileage (over 10%).

You're getting 19 mpg towing a trailer???!!!
Quit while you're ahead. It doesn't get any better. Save your money on "add ons".

I have read hundreds of post on this topic over the years, and tryed different things...This is MY OPINION, "save your money" on those add ons...your best towing mileage will be between 10-12 mpg...Regardless...It is what it is, unless your towing a 1500 pound pup with a 3/4 ton truck...just my opinion...YMMV...

How can you drive safely at 50 mph? At that speed, around here, I'd be ticketed for being an obstruction to traffic!

''Getting the best mileage possible''

Well, I just sold my 25' TT and my Path will follow soon. It was a very great combo for the last 10 years.

I just got a new Passat 2012 TDI 6 speed manual tranny and I will take delivery of my new TT (VISA 19ERD 2013) in june from Can-Am RV in London Ontario (Andy Thomson, the best of the best specialist in towing). I saw so many of these type of combo in Europe and if it work so well over there, it will work well over here too...

BTW, the Passat TDI has a tow ''capacity'' of 2,000 kg (with brakes on the trailer) on the other side of the Atlantic ocean...

My fuel consuption will be better WITH the TT than ANY PU solo in the best conditions !

And believe me, this is not a troll.
