For $1 a mile, they should have uniformed attendants peeling grapes and handing out scented towels along the way.

That's an unbelievable scam. The Florida toll road west of Miami without booths has numerous signs so you know you'll be getting a bill if you don't have the transponder. And IIFC, they post the amounts often too.

i hate E470, it's a total ripoff. it's not bad in a car. (still $2.50/5 miles or so) but in multi axle vehicle. Every axle is an additional toll. So if the toll is $2.50 for that mile section, (and i think that's the cheapest, most are closer to $3 now) if you have 4 axles (pickup plus trailer) that's $7.50 EVERY FIVE MILES.
and it's not even a great road. it's not perfectly smooth, etc.

Now i wonder about a motorhome with a tow car (4 down). Seems to me that's 2 separate 2 axle vehicles, not 1 4 axle vehicle. (esp if both have transponders).

but yeah, total ripoff
it is clearly posted it's a toll road and that it's license plate or EZ pass tolls. the booth's are all closed.

they used to (from opening til about a year ago) have big signs posting the toll rates for each booth set, but they took them down, probably because the rates keep going up all the time.

it's only worth taking if you go thru at rush hour. otherwise, it's not worth it at all. better to risk traffic.

C470 (the southwest corner, from I-25 south to I-70 west) is free.

If you have a toad, would they just bill you for it, or are the cameras "good" enough to tell you were towing? (but mam, I was being tailgated the whole time !)

It is not a ticket, and being charged a toll is not a penalty, nor does it make you a criminal.

Many toll roads around the country are now collecting tolls this way from highway, bridge and tunnel users that do not participate in the electronic pre-pay systems.

If I read their financial statement correctly, any toll income beyond operating expenses goes towards paying interest and bonds. Annual toll revenue is about $100 million, but debt is on the order of 1 billion.

The extension of E470 west of I25 (NW Parkway?) is now run by a private concessionaire, the same outfit that operates tollways in Portugal.

I got ripped off on this one too. Signs on the approach did say toll road but no one collected and I thought the booths were not open yet. Then I got the bill. Paid it but felt extremely irritated. States with reciprocity can have your drivers license suspended for non payment of fines. Didn't know for sure so played it safe and payed. Toll roads around Houston can be pricey too. And the Harbour Bridge in Baltimore isn't cheap. Tappan Zee ain't no bargain.

Order is illusion. Chaos is reality. But right or wrong I'm still the captain.
