We left Watson Lake a couple of days ago. The main things to tell you about the area are this:

A sixpack of Canadian beer cost $15.

The exchange rate at the bank was $99.1something. a REALLY GOOD DEAL. If you need to exchange for Canadian money, this is the place to do it. Much better rate than your credit card and your debit card.

On the road to Alaska!

P.S. Be careful driving from Morley River to Whitehorse. Potholes, sections of the road taken down to roadbed for repair. Some of these appear after a curve, so there is no warning. Be careful out there.

But, did you add your sign to the signpost forest?

Have fun!

I just checked the Govt. of Yukon Liquor Store site, Link and most of their 6 packs are $11.40, with others at $10.95!

Thats good. We bought at the store around the corner from the signpost forest. It was just about $15.

As of last September, they had the Morley River Bridge under reconstruction and other intermittent road resurfacing thru the area as well.

Just wait until you reach the stretch north of Burwash Landing thru the Alaska Border, some frost heaves and bumps are not marked as well so dont be in a hurry thru his stretch and be very careful and take your time (I averaged 22 mph to 26 mph thru this 130 mile stretch depending how bad the road conditions are in which I will not tear my rig up).

You will also run into other road resurfacing projects, just a way of life in the far north.

Thanks AKSilverEagle. We will be driving that section this morning.

The drive from Whitehorse to Kluane Lake was peppered with potholes, roads taken down to dirt for repaving, bumps in the road, unexpected dips. Just what you would expect. We took it slow.

Sounds like more of the same to Alaska, only more so. It is good to slow down and enjoy the scenery. ;-)
