Lund grill inserts specific to your your truck. Have had them on my truck since new and rad still looks like new. In winter, I switch out for solid plastic inserts to block out the cold. No robs w/ temps winter or summer.

As a firefighter, I often saw that there was a drastic reduction in the ability to move smoke out a window at a house fire with normal window screen in it. Even with a powerful fan, it could not be forced through at any appreciable rate. Only by removing the screen could I ventilate at a meaningful rate. I believe the comparison of smoke to air moving through screen is fair. JMHO. Gene

Tractors have a removable screen to keep grass and bugs out of the radiator . They do not over heat. I would just make sure that the screen wasn't too tight.

Installed the screens this morning- the quality seems good and the mesh appears to be the right size. I would say it is somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the size of a housefly.
This trip should be a great test- Will run approx. 4000 miles from sea level to up over 9k feet, mountains, desert, passes, flats and all kinds of weather.
Will report back at the end of the month including pictures of what the screens stop.

I use window screen on mine with no noticeable affect on heat. Its been on there for years most bugs just slide right off, no dents or dings in the fins from rocks.

I am currently running a Fia brand snap on bug screen on my DMax with no problems. Today pulling our fifth wheel through east Texas at 98 F without a problem. With my previous Dodge Cummins, I ran into cottonwood tree fuzz in the air in Montana. It stopped the radiator up so bad that I had to have it pulled and cleaned.
I had 1/4 inch hardware cloth in behind the grill but the fuzz got through somehow. Bought the Fia screen online easy to install or unsnap and remove. I keep a wisp broom under my truck seat and clean the screen at least daily when traveling.

Whoa!!!!
Drove up to the Bay Area and back this week and holy cow. I am amazed at the number of bugs this thing catches!
I honestly think a screen is a must have for anyone who hauls fairly heavy and needs all of the cooling capacity they can get.
