I am moving from a motorhome to a 5th wheel.
I am confused when trying to determine if I should go to a;
1 full one ton
2 a three quarter ton
3 a three quarter ton but add air bags for more suspension
We are looking to buy a 5th wheel with a max weight of 15,740#,
a curb weight of 12,580# and a pin weight of 2,270#.
I am looking at either an F250 or a F350.
Any sage advice out there?
Thanks

If it was me, I would opt for an F350/3500 DRW. That what we use to pull a similar weight 5th wheel

A nice diesel F-350, F-350 dually or F-450. Take your pick.

If you are going to buy a truck you should look at a 1 ton dually. One ton single rear wheel minimum. But.... what ever you are thinking about you need to learn what the specs are for that particular truck for the configuration it is in. Most 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks within the same manufacturer have the same diesel engine and the same transmission. But dependent on configuration, the rear axle weight rating, the rear axle ratio, the tire size, the rear springs, the payload, and the GVWR of the ruck will vary. You need to know that you will not exceed the capacity of the truck by adding up the trucks' weight when ready to tow plus the weight of the 5th wheel fully loaded for a trip and compare that to the GVWR of the truck. Also compare the payload capacity of the truck vs what the pin weight will be of the 5th wheel when it is fully loaded for a trip. The pin weight alone will push you into a 1 ton truck. One needs to do a bunch of homework to answer your specific situation requirements.
PS: you might find a 3/4 ton truck with the GVWR you need but it will need to have airbags to meet the pin weight requirements but I would not recommend it.

Another vote for a 1 ton diesel and an exhaust brake. I prefer to tow a 5th. wheel with a truck that has a little extra towing capacity

For that weight a 3500 Dual Rear Wheel at a minimum. Could also look at a 450.

No on the 3/4. Get a 350/3500. Only question is SRW or dually.
