I've never put the jacks down when camping, but that's just me. If motion bothers anyone, by all means, use the jacks. (just don't try to lift the truck)

If I'm alone, I level the rig and do not lower the jacks. But when the DW is along, I level and lower the jacks to stabilize. I won't go into the reason why, you probably already know.

I always lower the jacks to stabilize, it eliminates the noise.... (from the DW) . I do take a couple of minutes to remove the fast guns.

I use the electric jacks to level and stabilize unless I'm at Walmart or something. It's quick and easy. I also unhook the tie downs so as not to try and lift the truck. I don't worry about the electric usage. We're normally plugged in. Even when not plugged in it's not that much electricity.

Mtn lion wrote: Just got a used TC camper and was wondering if most people put the jacks down during camping or do you just level the truck and leave jacks up?
If so do you do it by hand crank or electric. I feel like I use to much battery power by lowering them up and down each time I want to move.
Any advise on this would be really appreciated,
Thanks
Nope.
I have never used them.
I took mine off, they were in the way.

I use two 4x4 posts cut to length that are about two inches short of the jacks when the TC is on the truck. I usually put them under the rear jacks and I never run the jacks all the way down. It only takes a few minutes and it keeps the TC from moving around. I hate when your sleeping and your other has to get up and the motion wakes you. I just like mine solid with no motion.

I don't like feeling motion when I am inside my camper. For the first year and a half I always used my camper jacks. Now I am using these jack stands instead. You could try this if you are worried about using battery power or wearing out your jacks. These jack stands were about $40 and they are pretty fast to set up. They take out a lot of the wobble you feel with people moving around or strong winds blowing.

They stack together for easy storage.

I place them under my torklift mounts to stop the trucks frame from moving.

When it gets really windy I use the truck jacks for added stability but that's rare.

I use the long boards to support the floor of the camper when it's off the truck to cut down on the sway felt by the play in the camper jacks. I am amazed by how much wobble there is in the camper jacks alone and how much wear it is putting on the corner areas of the TC where they mount. These stands dramatically reduce the motion from play in the camper jacks.

The long boards fit in the bed for storage because I only need them when I remove the camper.

You can also store the jacks here but I don't because you can only get them with the camper removed. I just keep mine in the back seat of my truck.

They don't completely eliminate the sway and wobble you feel with the wind or others moving around inside but they are just as good at it as the camper jacks and without the extra wear and tear of running the camper jacks up and down all the time. As far as leveling I get close with boards and then you can adjust it with these stands once you are close. Also where others have stated they remove their fastguns to use their camper jacks there is no need to with these stands.

I do it on a site that has a lot of slope, which is the case with a lot of the ocean side state parks that are built on the sea cliffs. I do it to get the propane fridge within its recommended tilt range.
