What campground is close to Ooltewah?
I am presently looking at Best Holiday Trav-L-Park or perhaps Raccoon Mountain.
Is either one of those within a decent commuting distance to Ooltewah, or is there another one better suited to our needs?

Is it legal in Tennessee to drive around with the towbar standing up on the front bumper(chained securely, of course), or will I have to remove it? It doesn't matter, just pull two pins and it is off, but it is slightly more convenient to just chain it up.

The closest campground to Oolteweh that I know if is the state park, which is right at the border of Oolteweh. No sewers, but they have water and electric. There are five separate camping areas within the park.

We always stay at the Holiday Trav-L-Park and it's a really nice park. Close to everything but yet out in the woods.

Raccoon Mountain is on the west side of Chattanooga, Ooltewah in on the northeast. 24 miles away and traffic could be an issue depending on time of day. Raccoon Mountain does not have shade, does have good wifi. It’s the only local private park we have ever stayed at.
Best Holiday Trav-L-Park will be 13 miles away. 11 of that will be straight up I-75, and you will not travel thru downtown Chattanooga. I have visited friends here, and IMOH it is the nicest.
Also along I-75 is the KOA north @ exit 20 in Cleveland TN. 16 miles away 1 exit north of Ooltewah. I have never seen the place.
KOA South @ exit 350 2 exits south of Best Holiday Trav-L-Park. 17 miles from the Ooltewah exit. Does have shade, right next to I-75.
Camping World also @ exit 1 has a campground. It is not far from I-75, and is RIGHT next to the local dirt track. Does have shade.
Harrison Bay SP in only 7 miles away, 2-lane through the woods and over the ridges. They don't take reservations, and being on the lake will stay full all summer, W/E only.
My milages are to exit 11, I-75 @ US-11. An Ooltewah mailing address covers a large area, nearly 20 north to south. So depending on where the milage could change.

There is a little campground on US 64 (the two-lane)between Cleveland and Ooltewah that looks attractive from the road but I don't recall it's name. It is on a hill on the west side. It looks as if there are mostly seasonal sites there but I usually notice some big rigs parked closer to the highway. This is a quiet road and is only a few miles from Ooltewah.Hopefull one of our members from Cleveland can help. lizzie

We have stayed at both Trav-l-Park and Raccoon Mtn. Trav-L-Park is near junction of I-75 & I-24. Sites are somewhat small, but a nice park with amenities and good location. Raccoon Mtn is SW of Chattanooga off I-24. The dead end paved road actually runs thru the middle of the park. On the weekend, we had all kinds of traffic comin and goin late into the night & early morning. The road cannot be "closed off" due to private property at end of road. Due to the Raccoon Mtn Cave next to campground, we also had school busses with students wandering around the campground, using the bathhouse. Holiday Trav-L-Park is not only much closer to your destination, but it is much nicer with restaurants and shopping nearby. Be sure to visit the Tennessee Aquarium in downtown Chattanooga and the Civil War Battlefield nearby. Have a great trip.

To narrow it down further, our ultimate destination will be Waycross Circle in Ooltewah.
I have never been there, don't know a thing about it!
I was in Memphis (Millington, actually) in '59-'60, and went to Nashville in about '83 or 4, and haven't been back to Tennessee since!

I would drive down I59 to Trenton GA and stay at CLOUDLAND CANYON STATE PARK. It is probably out of your range maybe 30miles south of Chattanooga.

We just love Clouldland. Only has Electric and Water but a real nice setting up on Lookout Mtn.

Just checked the map where Ooltewah is located - way to far to commute from CloudLand. I75 has three or four camp sites at every intersection between Chattanooga and Knoxville...

If Waycross Circle is indeed next to East Hamilton School as Google puts it, then either the campgrounds at TN exit 1 or GA exit 350 will put you about 10 miles away.
IMO the drive up from Ringgold would be easer than the drive over from East Ridge. But I also think that Best Holiday is the nicest park in town. There are more choices of restaurants and stuff in East Ridge TN than Ringgold GA. There is gas & diesel at both exits. Gas is cheaper in GA, diesel in TN.

About your towbar. I don't know what the law says, but I don't think you would get stopped just for that. And most LEO's that I know would just let you take it off.

Best Holiday RV Park is you best option. Imho.
4-5 pm traffic on the Interstate 24 and75 is not pretty but you're going to encounter from any of the Parks. One near Cleveland not reccomended by me. Camping World is a little faster access to the Interstate but it is tight campground.
If you're going to be camping a while Cloudland Canyon is the best one of the lot but the commute will take a while. Quiet, cooler, trails, and scenery.
